what are your favorite coming of age movies from the 90s? i know we talk about 80s teen movies a lot, but i think there were some good ones in the 90s too,...that were on the more serious side.

a couple i like are actually dramas,

Stella (1990)
 -

it centers around the relationship between daughter jenny and her mother, played by bette midler as the single, struggling mom.
john goodman and ben stiller are also cast in the movie. i think it does a good job of showing the sacrifices one makes, as a parent and the struggles of raising a kid, to a teen, and letting go.

trini alvarado plays the daughter, who was also in The Frighteners with Michael J. Fox and in the 80s movies - Times Square & Satisfaction.

i also LOVE The Man In The Moon (1991) with Reese Witherspoon.

 -

such a cute movie that takes place in the 50s. i am sure we all know that reese, even in her younger days she was a terrific actress. she plays Dani, in love with Elvis, but has her first real true love with an older teen boy who moves into town, played by Jason London (who was later in Dazed & Confused). he forms a sweet friendship with her, but then meets Dani's older teen sister, causing jealousy and conflict between the two girls. [Smile]

i don't own either of these movies, but i definitely need to add them to the wishlist! [Smile]

Although this is not the original and is slightly creepy, this is not a bad movie of one person coming of age. - Lolita (1997)

I am assuming that according to you guys The Man in the Moon is worth watching so I will endeavour to check it out.

The girl in Lolita is really hot. It sounds weird me saying that now cos I am almost 30 but I first saw this when I was 16 and obvioulsy she is older now too.

Don´t worry, Dominique is a year older than you are [Cool]
Lolita was her second movie, right after Face/Off.

I think 'Stella' might count as an honorary 80's movie. 'Man in the Moon' is good.

'Beautiful Girls'?
