What movies from the 90's have that 80's feel to them for you?  There is always the debate that actually movies from the 1990 should be considered 80's because several were filmed in 1989.. or others say that the true decade was 1981 to 1990..

But don't limit your thoughts to just 1990.. which 90's movies have that 80's hangover effect?

Here's a few to get us started:

 -

1.  Pump Up The Volume (1990)

 -

2.  Miracle Beach (1992)

 -

3.  The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (1990)

   -

4.  Run (1991)

 -

5. Dazed and Confused (1993)

I say this alot....I have lots of honorary 80's movies one of my favs is:

Mermaids 1990
 -

I might get "stoned" haha for this one but I never loved Dazed and Confused and to me feels so 90's because it was so full of 90's moviestars.

Good lists.

'Don't Tell Mom the Babysitters Dead':

 -

'Book of Love':

 -

'Don't Tell Her It's Me':

 -

I have to say, I don't find 'Dazed and Confused' to feel 80's at all. Mainly because it conforms to the 90's trend of deifying the 70's as the greatest era in music, and because it feels exactly like the navel-gazing Indie movies of the time like 'Reality Bites'. I love it, but everything about it feels post-80's, rather than 80's-hangover.

aTomiK, I was also going to pick 'Kuffs'. Such a great movie!

Loved all the other choices as well.
I think most movies of the early 90's still have that 80's feel. Though I can't find any past 1994...

I just don't understand how you so easily reject a movie that was made in the 90's about the 70's and say it's just not totally 80's? [Wink]

And Muffy .. how quickly you forget that "Dazed and Confused" was just a sequel to "Adventures in Babysitting"? It even had Daryl reprising his role!

okay.. in reality I almost pulled it from my list, but it is a fav of mine.. so there must be some 80's reason for it!

So many great additions to the list!

Huge fan of Toy Soldiers, Kuffs, Career Opportunities (can we get a Devo comment?), and Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.

And "Mermaids" definitely qualifies with the bonus of a Michael Schoeffling sighting!

Fix'd.

It's a great movie. If you asked Richard Linklater what his preferred decade was, 70's or 80's... we know what he'd say. It's a 'slacker' movie. File alongside 'Singles' and 'Reality Bites' while listening to Pearl Jam.

So many great additions to the list!
Isn't it great that we all clocked (probably at the time, too) that the 'vibe' of these movies was 'right' for the passed-away decade?

Career Opportunities (can we get a Devo comment?)
You can get a Logan comment! 'One Wild Night' was the last Hughes teen movie, yet for some reason it got almost no fanfare when it came out. That shows just how passe teen movies had become by the end of the 80's.

Another contender? There's room for debate:

I almost mentioned Encino "California" Man myself.
It has a certain 90s vibe (maybe it´s the actors) but it´s also very 80s.

The soundtrack rocks, especially the Vince Neil tune "You're Invited (But Your Friend Can't Come)"

Muffy, Zapped Again, another cool addition.

"Encino Man" and "Zapped Again" both fun movies that you can watch over and over. Great suggestions!

For me I consider 8 DAYS A WEEK an 80s movie even though its a 90s movie. It just has that teen boy dessperate to get laid (I can so imagine him played by someone like Jon Cryer) main charactor who just seems SO 80s to me.

Here´s two entertaining 80s style action flicks made in 1990.

Navy Seals (featuring a fantastic hard rock soundtrack)

 - -

I Come In Peace aka Dark Angel (featuring a nice Jan Hammer score)

I think the 90s movie THE STONED AGE was supposed to take place in the 70s but the kids in that really reminded me of my friends in the 80s.

Love The Stoned Age! I own it on dvd. A similar premise to Dazed and Confused.

I always considered My Girl 1991 an 80's hangover.....it had the whole set in the 60's vibe like many 80's movies did and Jamie Lee Curtis and Aykroyd! I still love it.

Groundhog Day (1993) is the latest I can think of. Oh, and I totally agree with "Mermaids", "My Girl" and "Toy Soldiers" that were mentioned before. Would mentioning Serial Mom (1994) be a stretch? Kathleen Turner was in it!

Devolution here,

Sorry for being late Valley, you know I love my Career Opportunities.

There were a lot of movies that could be mistaken, I loved Ford Fairlane too, but I think the biggest reason was that Cradle of Love video. Also to be added to that people in the video that are in the movie list.

We are DEVO
