Did anybody else see Bronx Tale with Robert DeNiro?

I think that it was a great show but it never gets talked about along with Goodfellas or Casino.

It is not a bad movie! I just think that the stereotypes run rampant, and even if it really was like that, it just gets a little tiresome with all the regular 60's nostalgia, mobster clicheés!

A Bronx Tale is a great mobster movie! Doesn't rank up there with Casino, Goodfella's and Donnie Brasco, but it can hold it's own. Deniro's role is quite different in this one, as he is the father of a boy who is being drawn into this world of the mob and he wants his son to have no part of it. Tells a good story also of how it was growing up in the Bronx in a time of racism and hanging on the streets. I highly recommend this to all who have never seen it.

Good movie, but I'd built it up a little too much as I'm a big fan of the actors involved, still, this is more Chazz Palminteri's thing and DeNiro plays against type quite well. 'A Bronx Tale' wears its low key, theatre origns with pride and you'll learn a few valuable life lessons from both the working man and & the wiseguy.

On a side note; Chazz Palminteri should make more films; last big role he had was in 'A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints' (another good movie)

Sonny: Alright, listen to me. You pull up right where she lives, right? Before you get outta the car, you lock both doors. Then, get outta the car, you walk over to her. You bring her over to the car. Dig out the key, put it in the lock and open the door for her. Then you let her get in. Then you close the door. Then you walk around the back of the car and look through the rear window. If she doesn't reach over and lift up that button so that you can get in: dump her.
Calogero 'C' Anello: Just like that?
Sonny: Listen to me, kid. If she doesn't reach over and lift up that button so that you can get in, that means she's a selfish broad and all you're seeing is the tip of the iceberg. You dump her and you dump her fast.

Good film altough I don't think it ranks as well as Goodfellas and Casino.
Hey Kash, I have watched Guide to Recognizing Your Saints twice now- good flick too. Is is supposed to be set in the 70's or 80's though- I couldn't figure that one out. Maybe early 80's?

Good movie. Better the 3rd time you see it... [Smile]

Its set in 1986 Pittsburghgirl, and then 2001 when Robert Downey Jr. comes back. I don't mind Shia LaBeof, but he was the wrong choice to play young Robert Downey Jr. IMO.

It probably all stems from this scene....

It's a pretty good movie, but not on the top of my "mobster" movie list.

As an aside, the movie was filmed right around the corner from the school that I teach at. You can see the front of the school's church right at the beginning of the movie, when DeNiro is in the bus, and he makes the sign of the cross.

i'm not much of a deniro fan, so this movie was so so for me. i wouldn't buy it or anything.
however, the soundtrack is great. and chaz does a great job playing sonny.

is this movie even considered a real "mob" movie???

The kid that plays De niro's son "Calogero 'C' Anello" in the movie was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison. What a shame...

It's also interesting to note that he is actually Colombian not Italian. I thought he was good in Crimson Tide as well... [Smile]

I have read in Leonard Maltin's film review book that in order to re-create the Bronx of the 60s for "A Bronx Tale," Robert De Niro had to make the film in both Brooklyn as well as Queens. And speaking of mob films, if you take a look at the cast list, then you shall see that Joe Pesci is in it. It was their first reteaming since "GoodFellas."
