"I killed Liz. I killed the teen dream. Deal with it."

 -

"Jawbreaker" fits in with the other "girl power" movies of the 90's like "Clueless," "The Craft," and "10 things I hate about you." It is also constantly compared to my favorite 80's movie, "Heathers" for some obvious reasons.

 -

The movie begins with a group of popular high school girls playing a prank on one of their friends that actually results in her death. The rest of the movie revolves around a crazy cover-up of this girl's demise, which involves one character getting a "geek to chic" makeover, and one popular girl removing herself from the clique in her attempts to protect the reputation of her dead friend.

 -

Even though the plot is dark, the movie is full of candy colors and tongue in cheek dialogue. Rose McGowan is awesome as the formidable Head B*tch and Rebecca Gayheart plays the role of the sympathetic friend well. It has some cute 80's pop culture references to the 80's, but overall the movie has a timeless quality about it that I like.

 -

Marilyn Manson has a blink and you might miss him cameo, but what I really loved was the appearance of the all girl group The Donnas who play at the big dance at the end of the movie. The soundtrack is also one of my favorites from the 90's, especially the songs "Yoo Hoo" by Imperial Teen and "Flow" by Transister.

Yoo Hoo - Imperial Teen

"are you cool...are you cool" love it! lol I bought this because it was cheap on dvd......and I still liked it very much, a 90's movie for sure. I heart the Donnas and I love that they were in movies like this and Drive Me Crazy.....I think there is another one? Marilyn Manson was dating Rose then right? I'm still grossed out by that though ehhhhh lol I think Rose is beautiful and plays the perfect b"e"tch right?

I can see people would compare it to Heathers but it's no where close as good. Just a dark teen comedy is all. [Smile]

i haven't watched Jawbreaker in a long time and now i want to! [Smile]

i remember it being compared to Heathers, too. my girlfriends were obsessed with this movie back when it came out.

and funny about Rose McGowan, i thought she was lookin' awesome around the time of Planet Terror.., and i always found her to be so gorgeous and intriguing but just last week or so, i caught a clip of her on the red carpet for some movie and wow.. she has had so much work done, she looks pathetic.

i'm definitely going to revisit this one!

Muffy, I have never seen Drive Me Crazy, is it any good? I'm tempted to see it now since you mentioned The Donnas are in it. And yes, Jawbreaker is nowhere near as classic as Heathers!

Ronnie, I so agree with you about Rose. She used to be sooo beautiful, I don't know why she felt the need to botch her face up?? She also lost a ton of weight, which doesn't suit her either, in my opinion.

agreed! she looked great with more meat on her bones and was more curvy.

muffy, i love Drive Me Crazy haha! the Donnas...sorry The Electrocutes....are awesome in it. their version of 'Keep On Loving You'.. was cute and that i love how that song sort of becomes a theme in the movie.
another great track in that movie is Stranded by Plumb. that song is forever stuck with me, it's beautiful.

Veronica, go see Drive Me Crazy. very cute movie!

1999 certainly was a year of MegaB*tches wasn't it?
You had Mcgowen in this film in one corner. And Sarah Micelle Gellar in "Cruel intentions" in the other. Who do you all think was the better B*Tch?

I personally have to go with Gellar in Cruel Intentions. As good as Mcgowen is in Jawbreaker, Gellar took spoiled, snott-nosed, Mega-B*tchdom to a whole new level in Cruel Intentions.
But anyway, the reason I bring Cruel Intentions up is because both these films were released in 1999 and these films make for a good Double Feature.
In fact, if they haven't been released yet on a Double Feature DVD..then I wonder why the hell not?

Pyro, I love Cruel Intentions! Sarah Michelle has said that she was inspired by Heather Chandler in Heathers for her part in that movie [Smile]

Have you guys seen Rose McGowan lately? If not, that makes sense cause no one has!!! What I'm saying is I caught her recently in an episode of Law & Order SVU and she was practically unrecognizable!!! Holy plastic surgery!!! Wow!!! I thought she was fine the way she was...why do people do this to themselves?!?! Ugh!!

Girl thread!

*Logan busts in and starts doing the Saturday Night Fever dance*

Logan runs out having contributed nothing at all except a vague sense of John Travolta.
