I was trying to think of what the best comedy to come out of this decade was and quite frankly I am at a loss. I cannot think of one single movie that stands out as King of Comedy for the decade. Can anyone help me??

The Mask was pretty good, as was Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (f you take it entirely at face value). There's Something About Mary was probably the best one of that decade IMO.

There are several worthwhile choices, but if I had to choose, the first Austin Powers film gets my nod. Second place would go to Galaxy Quest and third to Black Sheep.

I can't believe I had forgotten about Something About Mary. It was definitely a great ranch fest. But what about American Pie??

I always found American Pie to be a so-so franchise... Something about them reminds me of Porky's and films from that era (not that they are bad films, just of their times). Maybe it is that they have become so cliched so soon?

It's nice to see so much love here for the Farrelly brothers. I think they made at least 3 of the best comedies of the 90s, and my favorite from them is the one not yet mentioned:

KINGPIN!

I loved Groundhog Day. I thought Murray was hillarious in that movie.

Hey Bigfoot...I like your choice.

I haven't laughed at a new movie in forever...my Aunt told me she just saw Little Miss Sunshine and she thought it was hysterical....but me and my mom have looked at the previews for that movie, and there is absolutely nothing about the preview that looks funny...or you can tell what it's about or that it even looks interesting.

Saturday night...me and Cindymancini were laughing our heads off at the movies we were watching, and we talked later about the scene in the movie CLASS...where Virgina Madsen makes her debute...where she goes to hand "Jonathan" a sandwich, and that whole scene where she gets her shirt ripped off, and the food flies up and hits the one lady in the face...and Rob Lowe is sitting there completely straight faced, with not an ounce of food on him, and he says...I don't know, what do you think Jonathan?

It was so funny...and if someone wrote that to be exactly the way they acted it...it was perfectly coreographed.

You look at movies today...and there is nothing spontaneous being captured on film, it is all so stupid.

The comedians that are on TV now...they all talk about SEX...especially the women...I don't know what that's all about...but all you gotta do is stay tuned in for 5 seconds and that's what you hear.

I miss good comedians like Steve Martin (when he was funny in movies like The Jerk and when he did SNL)...and I loved Bill Cosby...he was so funny too.

Movies like Caddyshack and Meatballs...they stand the test of time, because they have humour in them that everyone can relate to.

I forgot about Road Trip, it is pretty darn funny too. Even if it is slightly post 90s.

Yes, it is hilarious. Tom Green has this dry kind of humor.

there's something about mary

recent comedies with an 80s spirit (but extreme):

not another teen movie (obviusly)

the 40 year old virgin - the best comedy I have seen in years. check out the bonus material on dvd, it shows that the people who made the movie did it with heart, ad a lot of talent

Anything with Chris Farley or Adam Sandler.
There's Something About Mary has to be one of the funniest movies ever!
As far as comedians talking about sex: Anyone remember Andrew Dice Clay or Eddie Murphy from the 80's?

I think that Bill Murray's performance in Kingpin was just priceless. He was so perfect for that role. I can't believe I forgot about him and that one. I have seen it so many times I should have it memorized.
