There's something in the water at Lost River Lake.
Something you can't see...something you can't feel...until it's too late!

Just watched Piranha and i loved it.
It has all the Joe Dante movie ingredients:
Cool scary scenes, some funny moments, great characters and D1ck Miller.

Bradford Dillman and Heather Menzies were good in the title roles.
The co-stars include Kevin McCarthy, Keenan Wynn, Barbara Steele, Paul Bartel and Belinda Balanski.

 -

Once again Universal Studios attempted to sue New World for spoofing Jaws.
However, Steven Spielberg saw the movie in advance and loved it. After that, Universal dropped the lawsuit.

I laughed in the beginning of the movie when we see Menzies´ character playing Jaws arcade game,
maybe Spielberg found that also funny.

Piranha (1978) trailer

Any Piranha fans here?

Piranha fan, reporting for duty [Smile]

I love this stupid movie, and even enjoy the even stupider (is that a word?) sequel!

YES loved the original movie since i was a kid in the 80's when i rented it on video and the sequel sucked *** despite being James Cameron's debut and the 1995 cable remake sucked too for it was just re-inserting footage from the original into the film.

Piranha 3D was tons of fun for being a proper remake without re-inserting clips from the old movie but something fresh and new added.

I own a copy of Piranha on DVD.

I have liked it from when I first saw it as a child.

It definitely is a relishable film.

I am pretty sure I remember watching this as a kid and I think I liked it. I might have to check it out again.

Hey Cassie, slightly off topic here but there are not many Ozzies on the board. Do you remember a 1982 Oz movie called Fast Talking? It was pretty good but nobody I have ever met has ever seen it.

Deja vu! I just watched Piranha about two weeks ago, courtesy of the excellent Shout! Factory release from a couple years ago. As a fan of Joe Dante and nature gone berserk movies, I was not disappointed.

There's so many great things about the original Piranha, including but not limited to:

Convincing piranha attacks (Shooting them in a succession of quick cuts, combined with Pino Donaggio's score, added to the suspense for me).

A usually witty script by John Sayles

The aforementioned score by Pino Donaggio

Solid chemistry between the two leads. Even though their characters are total opposites - the gruff individualist (Bradford Dillman, who was equally terrific in Bug) and the spunky investigator (Heather Menzies) - yet it's their contrasting personalities that make them a fine pair

A truly eclectic supporting cast - Kevin McCarthy, Barbara Steele, D-i-c-k Miller (Not sure why his first name keeps getting censored when I preview my post), Belinda Belaski, Paul Bartel, Keenan Wynn, Melody Thomas, Richard Deacon, Bruce Gordon, to name some.

The cameo by the Jaws arcade game. I'm a sucker for appearances by arcade video games in movies.

I can't recommend Piranha enough. If you haven't seen it yet, go get it!

I have been putting it off for a while. Will definitely watch it in the next couple of days. I have not watched it since I was 10 or so.

I watched it today thanks to the link Skate provided.

I remember vaguely that I thought it was alright as a kid but today I just could not get into it. I didn't think much of it at all.

I saw the remake/reboot a couple of years ago, but it doesn't compare. I thought it would resemble an old Jaws or slasher flick, but I didn't like it as much.

Remake is good for a laugh but it's the original all the way for me,it's such good fun!

Pity Joe Dante seems to have lost his touch a bit,his latest burying the ex is meant to be a bit of a stinker [Frown]
