At last they will release this classic movie on dvd here in Finland.
One of the best movies ever made IMO.

It will be a 2-disc dvd including the Cinema Cut -version (1 h 54 min)
and the Director's Cut -version (2 h 25 min)
Of course with lots of extra material.

Any fans?

Fan here. It's a sprawling unfocused movie, but I still like it.

And in a way, that's the beauty of it, that there is rambling in the plot; that helps make the insanity all the more insane, which may not have exactly been how Spielberg intended, but still works wonderfully. The best way to see the film is as a satire of all war films, many of which are, truth be told, similarly unfocused and overblown; in that regard, it is one of the best satires ever put together (and you do have to give it some points for originality; in how many other pictures would a Nazi be the sanest and most rational person in the script?); on my first viewing, I had about 5 or 6 huge laughs, with Belushi chasing after his plane and blowing up the gas station probably getting the biggest one (he doesn't get nearly enough credit for his role here, sandwiched between Bluto and Jake in his career, but he is the primary film driver, with wonderful little moments to complement the big ones, for example his insistence on parachuting after his plane crashes even though he's mere inches off the ground), and Ned Beatty's obliterating of his house in his futile attempt to sink the sub coming in a close second.

I saw it in the theaters when it first came out. At the time, my impression was that it was okay, but not great. But I get the hunch that Spielberg was trying to make a physical megacomedy similar in fashion to the early 1960's movie, "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World".

I'm not that anxious to see it, because I have no idea how different the Director's Cut will be from the original theatrical version.

I really don´t remember it well enough. Only seen the film once and that was in the early 90s.
I´m definitely going to get all these releases.
