I just heard that John Travolta is planning to star in a remake of the 1974 crime caper movie "The Taking Of Pelham 1-2-3".

The story is about a bunch of guys (given names after colors: Mr. White, Mr. Green, Mr. Gray) who rob and take hostage of a New York City subway train and demand $1 million within one hour.

The original starred Walter Matthau, Martin Balsam, and Robert Shaw.

IIRC, there was a TV-movie remake in 1998.

But anyway, has anyone here seen the original?

I am not an old person(43) but I saw the original(on tv in the 70's. The original cast out classes any group of Current actors. You forget Jerry Stiller in a supporting role.

Did Tarentino get his idea of the names of the characters in Reservoir Dogs from this movie?

Yes, he did. Tarantino is a big fan of 70's movie and 70's pop culture.

As above, he also got the sartorial style from 'A Better Tomorrow II'.

I saw 'The taking of Pelham 1-2-3' on TV once: it took a little while to get going but I liked it a lot, apparently it was also a major influence on Christopher McQuarrie when he was writing 'The Usual Suspects'.
