Anyone get this or heard of this? Was a canadian hockey and music themed movie from 1971 movie which starred Art Hindle, Trudy Young and John Vernon(of Animal House fame). A lot of cameos of NHL legends in their prime like Bobby Hull, Bobby Orr and Derek Sanderson. a real gem and time capsule. Anyone seen it?

LOL! This is great! I have some Canadaian friends, with whom I fondly wax nostalgic for "Faceoff." We laugh about it and quote it all the time. I remember seeing it late one night, probably about 15 years ago, on the great, but now gone, satellite service called Trio, which at the time was partially Canadian owned. It is such a perfect relic of its era that SCTV did a hilarious sketch which incorporated all its classic elements of Canadian filmmaking of the era--hockey, the snow, the kid from the sticks (like Thunder Bay or Pembroke or somewhere), the washed out colors from striking the film's prints from an internegative, the mom putting her son on the train so that he can go to the "big city" of T'ranna to play hockey, the evils of T'ranna nightlife, Trudy Young's bellbottoms and folk songs, Maple Leaf Gardens, and the immortal credit "and John Vernon as The Coach." It got a nothing release--by Cannon, I think--here in the lower 48, and most non-Canadians don't even know that it exists. It's really something to see. Riptide, I may have to spring for that brand new special edition, which was released recently in the Great White North to heavy publicity. It really is that much fun. [Smile]

Got it for xmas. Man, it's a great time capsule. Worth it for the NHL footage alone. The ending is crazy, about on par as the one for Easy Rider. I was convinced the main guy was the saem guy who plays Davinci on canadian tv, but it doesn't appear to be. The extras have that SCTV parody you mentioned. Some of the actors are on the commentary and let me tell you that man Trudy Young aged like crazy. She must have been on booze and three packs a day, because she really sounds bad. Should be a warning to Lindsay Lohan, who the young Trudy Young looks uncannily like. Love these hockey movies, and will continue to hunt the obscure ones down.
