It doesn't necessarily have to be an arcade machine. It can be consoles too.

Cant' Buy Me Love,

Courtney Gains is playing a game:

I believe it's Enduro Racer but I could be wrong. Also while he is playing it you can clearly see 1942 in the background.

We should be able to rack up a fair few.

Private School was a movie I saw as a kid and the only thing I could remember about it was that scene. That enabled me to track it down a couple years back.

Jaws ain't 80's (I am sure you know it's 75) but I'll forgive ya, cos it's one of my favourite films.

Ok, forget the 80's part of it. Any video games from any decade. That'll open it up a bit.

Enduro Racer? The game he's playing is HANG ON. But of course that's what it was called here in the states..could be a different name elsewhere.

Bernie, you must have been reading my mind because I swear I was about to post a thread on this very subject. You beat me to the punch, but that's OK with me since you're a fellow retro video game buff.

The Good Package, I did recognize an Asteroids Deluxe and an Amidar in the background in Private School. I don't remember the name of the game Bubba was playing off the top of my head, but perhaps someone else might.

Another one of my favorite '80s comedies, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, has a Centipede and a Galaga in the station where Neal calls his wife as Del tries to sell shower curtain rings in order to get money for both of them to buy tickets. Both games are clearly visible next to the phonebooth Neal uses.

The 1983 movie Joysticks is filed with classic video games. As far as I know, it's the only movie from the 80s that takes place in an arcade. Considering how popular video games and arcades were then, I'm surprised none of the major studios tried to do something along similar lines. The games I recognized in Joysticks were Pooyan, Super Pac Man, Satan's Hollow, Pole Position, Star Castle, Battlezone, Tempest, Missile Command, Defender, Centipede, Qix, Moon Patrol, Gorf, and Pac Man. There's others I didn't list, but I'd estimate the total number of games seen in Joysticks at 40-50.

Better Off Dead has two scenes where you can see video games. The first is when Lane and Charles are talking in the supermarket check-out lane. You can see a Punch Out in the background behind Lane. The second is when Lane brings Monique to Pig Burgers for their date. The backs of Robotron: 2084 and Pac Man can be seen.

Hey dude. The game he is playing is definitely Enduro Racer.

Here is a link for Can't Buy Me love. Start at 2:10

A link for Enduro Racer:

A link for Hang-On:

A link on Wikipedia about the game:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enduro_Racer

Direct quote from Wikipedia:

"Some said it is essentially the dirt version of Hang-On, hence using the simliar engine and PCB."

I noticed while watching Can't Buy Me Love again., that a Rygar cabinet can be seen next to the 1942 machine and Gains throws Dempsey up against a Centipede cabinet.

It was actually that scene that kind of inspired me to do this thread. Awesome scene. He seems to rack up those points pretty quick.

It's funny you should say that I beat you to the punch, cos that's exactly how I felt when you started up that arcade thread a while back. I am very glad that you did though. I love arcade games. I believe I posted a picture of my cabinet in that thread too.

I am not sure about the name of the game in Private School although I would be interested in playing it.

Yeah, I have always taken close notice of that Galaga machine in Planes, Trains. I dunno why though cos I am not a major fan of Galaga but I guess I always admired its artwork.

The Young Warrior and Zach, thanks for turning me onto Joysticks. I am gonna try and track it down. I have honestly never heard of it, but I am glad that I have a movie full of arcade games to look forward to watching. Awesome I love it.

I always forget Better Off Dead. Its one of those movies that for some reason I always forget what happens in it.

Thanks guys for all your input.

Any more?

If there was gonna be any game to confuse it with it would certainly be Hang-On. They are both great games. Very difficult games too.

Hundreds of movies included arcade/game scenes in the 80s.
Even the tv-movies had them like the Children of Times Square (1986) below.
Can´t remember what the games were on that one.

 -

Another one i remember was Getting It On (1983)

 -

There used to be a site/database which collected games in movies info
but i´m not sure if it´s still online.
