I watched Modern Problems this morning and it was just ok for me. But after seeing it, I thought, there are a bunch of Chase films I have never seen!

  • Fletch or Fletch Lives
  • Caddyshack II ..which was made 8 or 9 years after the first one! I think I started watching it on netflix once and didn't make it passed 10 minutes ha.
  • Three Amigos
  • Funny Farm
  • Spies Like Us

I know there are more from the 80s that he did, but I've seen more of his 90s films.

I've seen all the Vacation movies, which I like and Christmas Vacation being my least favorite...I know it's truly loved on this site. Vegas Vacation doesn't count! ha

So are the movies listed above pretty funny? Are they at least better than Modern Problems? [Big Grin] [Wink]

I recommend "Funny Farm" and "The Three Amigos".. and "Spies Like Us" is worth at least one viewing.

My favs beside the vacation movies are actually .. "Caddyshack", "Fletch", "Seems Like Old Times", and "Foul Play".

I've seen Funny Farm, Three Amigos, and Spies Like Us, but all when I was fairly young. I always seem to have this unspoken loyalty for ol' Chevy, but don't remember liking his movies... as much as I wanted to like them. I remember having high expectations for Funny Farm, and recall being disapointed. That being said, please consider that I was young. Got me itching to revisit some of these though...I believe I own all the ones you've listed Ronnie...

This is so funny because I watched Modern Problems too this morning!!!!!

OMG I definitely say that you need to see Funny Farm, LOVE IT, Fletch, not so much on Fletch 2, and Spies Like US is worth it too.

Some of his best work there.

Fletch is an absolute must, easily CC's finest hour. The sequels not great but they're still some laughs to be had.
Spies Like Us: Quite funny.
Three Amigos: Hilarious.

"Cue the deer". Just watched Funny Farm last night. Recommended

"Now you prepare that fetzer valve with some 3 and 1 oil & some gauze pads". Fletch, WATCH IMMEDIATELY!

Spies Like Us? Donna Dixon is in it. Need I say more. Put on your bucketlist.

Giant Chase fan so I might be a little biased.

Jessie The Sunflower Goddess. Do you mind telling what part of KS you are from. north south east west or central?

ronnie from that list modern problems is the only one i've never seen.

caddyshack is a classic where as i felt caddyshack 2 was a complete stinker!

i purchased funny farm and spies like us on a 2 films on 1 disc blu ray last year while on my holiday, funny farm i always found the funnier of the 2.

spies like us was fun but i felt it could have been even better, what with ackroyd and director landis on board.

three amigos i've always liked,i've never really took to martin short, but teamed up here with chase and steve martin under john landis's direction make for a fun movie!

fletch i love, fletch lives o.k,but dissapointing after what came before!

i thought seem's like old times was good fun, plus i also enjoyed deal of the century.

one chevy chase film i have never seen which i would love to see is foul play which also stars goldie hawn and dudley moore,i can remember my mum watching this on late night tv many years back and telling me she really enjoyed it!

Certainly go for Foul Play; Chevy gets to show off his more serious and romantic sides that they rarely let surface there, while still having his amusing moments (particularly in the climax where he racks up at least 100 traffic violations trying to save the day).

Has anyone a verdict on Under the Rainbow? My expectations aren't high with it given the criticisms of ethnic insensitivity and a weak storyline, but if anyone has anything positive to say on it, I'll take that into account as well?

Devolution here,

Now we are in my wheelhouse!

Fletch is easily one of my top 5 most quoted movies, much like Airplane, you must watch it a couple of times to appreciate all of the jokes that might fly by: my personal favorite the whole Dr. Rosen skit.

Fletch Lives is underrated probably because the first one is a masterpiece.

The Three Amigos is great. Does anyone know what Nada means? Isn't that a light chicken gravy? I die everytime.

Spies like us took more getting used to. It's funny but not in the same way the others are.

Watch these now!

IŽll have to agree with Devo, those are all fun movies.
iŽve seen Funny Farm only once back in the 80s.
DonŽt remember much but it must be the worst on that list.

I didn't realize you hadn't seen the original "Fletch" .. that should be #1 on your list and you might want to watch it tonight to say that you did.

Now I know why you never got any of my Fletch quotes over the years. [Wink]

So you really did think 'Bit By Bit' was from "Fire With Fire"? Or do you have the "Fletch" soundtrack too? [Big Grin]

Chase is terrific in Fletch, and Funny Farm is an underrated little gem. Yes, but how many Chevy Chase fans have seen "The Groove Tube"(1974)? [Smile]

Oh come on Val, get real! Of course I knew it was from Fletch! But the song tends to annoy me. [Frown]
Stephanie Mills' voice is what does it, I think?

However, you know that will not stop me from owning the soundtrack [Wink]

Dude, first off, Chevy is the man!

I have for some reason always loved Funny Farm. I admit it is not the best movie in the world, and not his funniest, but I can't get enough of that movie. I think it is because I kid of have that same dream, to live in the country some day and take on a more simple life. My wife and I watch this movie every month or two!

I would almost have to say that you need to see every Chevy movie if you are a Chevy fan. Some are bad but there is something about him that just cracks me up.

I actually like the tune .. but totally knew that you would know Fletch's soundtrack without ever seeing the movie. Try to watch it soon if you can.

Do you like "Seems Like Old Times" or "Foul Play"?

Ronnie I remember seeing Three Amigos in the theater....my cool Uncle took a bunch of cousins it was one of the best days.....the movie was so funny we'd all mimic it after.....i've been meaning to watch it again soon.

Funny Farm I always liked....I've never really seen the Fletch movies or Spies like Us, caught them on tv and seen parts of them....but never set down and watched them.

Ronnie Xmas Vacation is your least fav....but do you still love it? Uncle Eddie and his black ****ey turtleneck?? lol

It's a tie between the original and European for me!

I can't say that I 'love' Christmas Vacation? But i watched European Vacation a lot as a kid, so that has to be my favorite. The first Vacation movie was hilarious as well. [Smile]

All the movies mentioned in this thread seem worth a shot. When it came to movies with Chevy Chase, Steve Martin, Dan Aykroyd,...movies with those guys always seemed to pass me by somehow.

I will say that the train scene in European Vacation is probably my favorite part of any of the movies. When they are all trying to annoy each other I pee everytime.

'Foul Play' isn't really a Chevy Chase movie in the same way as some of the others. 'Seems Like Old Times' is a Neil Simon movie, and along with 'Under the Rainbow' and 'Modern Problems' those films all make up the pre-movie stardom Chevy Chase.

However, all the ones listed in your post are at least good if not great. But I'm a sucker for Chevy.

Devolution, I looked it up in a Spanish-English dictionary and that word means nothing.

Out of the Chevy Chase films listed, I have seen Funny Farm. I have no idea about the others.
