Just watched Crossroads again
and although i´m not a "bluesman" i´ve always liked this movie.

The film was directed by Walter Hill who is a legend in my books.

The cast is very good:

Ralph Macchio, Joe Seneca and Jami Gertz are the three travellers.
Robert Judd plays Scratch the devil and Joe Morton is his assistant.
Steve Vai is the wicked guitar demon.
Dennis Lipscomb also has a nice supporting role as the sleazy Lloyd.

 -

I like the story, the mystery, the myth.
It´s a good music film and a road movie at the same time.

One of my friends was a big Crossroads fan back in the day
and he became a pretty good guitar player.
I believe that this movie influenced him a lot.

Check it out if you still haven´t seen it.

Some films are remembered, some are forgotten. For some reason this one has been largely forgotten. I remember it coming out like it was yesterday.

I loved it, back in the day! For some reason, I like Ralph Macchio, even in Ugly Betty! His scene in this with Steve Vai is one of the best movie duels.

One of my faves! Steve Vai is one of my idols! The duel at the end between Vai and Macchio is amazing. Did you know.... Steve Vai really played all the guitar parts that Ralph Macchio pretended to be playing? He also trained him how to make it look like he was playing. He could also never get the feel for using a guitar pick.... watch closely and you will see that Macchio rarely is using a pick in his right hand. Awesome movie from beginning to end!

Another underrated Walter Hill flick that I know Ralph Macchio raves about the experience at times. Didn't they give him one of the guitars he used in it?

I play guitar and I am not a big fan of the movie but I won't knock it at all. Love some of the guitar scenes at the start and absolutely love the guitar duel.

Steve Vai must have tried so hard to look bad cos that guy is just a freak that nobody could ever make look bad in a guitar duel. I can't emphasise how good Vai is. A really nice and inspirational person too judging by talks that he has done.

This is one of those 80s films that I probably need to take a look at again because, as much as I like director Walter Hill, I don't think that this was one of his better films. But, BL, you hit its strengths: the music and Vai's guitar work, which is really outstanding. It's worth a look for that alone.

Cheers Crash. I am a big believer that your first impressions are usually right 98% of the time. If you originally thought a movie wasn't that great chances are when you revisit it even if it is 20 years later your feelings are usually the same. I believe I have had one exception to this on a particular movie but can't recall which one it is.

Same thing when it comes to food. I tried peanut butter once when I was 5 and once when I was 26. Both times I spat it out.
