Thought this might be a helpful thread for those movies we are on the edge of whether we want to spend the time watching them or not.

National Lampoons Class Reunion. Should I watch this?

If you truly want to see how bad it is then I would recommend it. This movie was written by John Hughes but it was one of his earlier works. It was a major flop and for good reason. It's like a really bad comedy/horror meets Scooby Doo. In my opinion it's terrible. I first watched it when I was 10 and thought it was bad then and actually watched it recently to give it another go. It was just as bad as I remembered it.

It´s not THAT bad. While not a classic by any means i found it quite fun film. Stephen Furst rocks!

I agree with atomik,it's certainly not lampoon's animal house classic but its also nowhere near as bad as its reputation would have you believe, for starters it's got a great setting and there's a few good laughs here and there!

I'd say yeah definitely give it a go.

This review of it below on imdb made me laugh, the guy comparing it to police academy 7 - mission to moscow - no way,It's definitely not that bad I think that might be pushing it a bit!

Imdb review

One of the worst movies I have ever seen!
2/10

Author: steve layne

14 April 1999

This movie is about as underrated as Police Acadmey Mission to Moscow. This movie is never funny. It's maybe the worst comedy spoof ever made. Very boring, and dumb beyond belief. For those people that think this movie is underrated god help you. I give this movie * out of ****

How about the 1986 atomic bomb thriller - the Manhattan project starring the excellent John lithgow. Worth a watch anyone?

I stand by my opinion of Class Reunion. I do think it's terrible. I would certainly not give it more than 2/10. Hmmm, never heard of The Manhattan Project. I like Lithgow though.

The Manhattan Project is not a perfect thriller but it oozes 80s feel.
Christopher Collet´s character is badly written because he´s super annoying and he´s supposed to be the hero?
However if you like 80s sci-fi related films and John Lithgow (who doesn´t, Nixon´s good too) i would say, give it a go!

Personally I love Manhattan Project, but the flaws that Atomik mentions are very much there. Collet comes off as more of an arrogant jock than a science geek and there are plotholes you can drop a nuke through here and there. But the 80's feel is there, I like the score and the whole plutonium heist sequence, however far fetched, is a joy to watch. If you're not too picky, I would give it a whirl.

Despite my distaste for George Newbern, the trailer for this piqued my interest. Any thoughts by those who have seen it?

It´s a decent teen fantasy. Kimberly Foster is superhot and i found it cool that it´s shot in Texas area.
I own the finnish vhs tape:

Well, "decent" is hardly a glowing recommendation, but I guess I can put it on the list.

Did a google image search on Kimberly Foster.... she definitely helps the movies' chances.

Peter I watched - it takes two for the first time a little while back and overall i quite enjoyed it,it's not as much fun as the directors david beaird's earlier t&a comedy - the party animal but obviously it's quite different in tone (thats an r rated sex comedy this more a pg 13 comedy romance) from that film.

Yeah I'd say go for it I can't see any reason why I think you wouldn't like it, here's a little write up I done for it earlier in the year - http://www.fast-rewind.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php/topic/2/11808/4.html#000086

Nice write-up, Warrior. You would have sold me on it, had it not been for the limited availability.... damn it. It's kind of hard to fathom how regular mainstream Hollywood films, albeit 30 years old, are still largely unavailable in 2015.

Also, I watched Dragnet the other week, what does Kim Foster play? Bait Mate perhaps?

Yeah peter there's loads of films that haven't see the light of day yet on DVD,a lot of these distributors seem to be content with reissuing the same old films over and over again but just dressing them up differently with say different packaging, perhaps a few more extras it's all pretty lame to tell the truth?

I had to watch - it takes two on YouTube which is not the best scenario but the fact it wasn't a bad copy made it a bit more bearable.

Dragnet's pretty good fun,not seen it in a while though, talking of - the manhattan project here's another espionage type thriller I've never seen -

Japanese vhs cover for cloak and dagger(1984).

1984's - cloak and dagger Starring e.t's Henry Thomas and dabney Coleman this actually looks pretty good fun!

Worth hunting down?

P.S. I hope the guy who is playing the multiple association games with himself in some of the other sections is ok. You'd have to be pretty bored.... just saying.

I think that Cloak and Dagger is a miss. It had its moments--and I'm going on recollection from decades ago when it came out--but it didn't really gell (Pun intended, Mr. Mood Rock '76. Great handle!). Dabney Coleman is excellent, and I know a lot of folks do seem to like it, so maybe it's me.

Class Reunion is 'silly'. But as long as you know that going in it's fairly fun. I always liked it.

Manhattan Project is worth a watch. Not classic, but worth seeing once.

Cloak and Dagger I remember nothing of, but Dabney always gives good value.

I've always quite enjoyed - target peter,I don't think you can ever go far wrong with the terrific gene Hackman plus I've always liked matt Dillon as well which is a plus and while it might not be held in the same regard as director arthur Penn's earlier works I still think its a lot of fun!

Here's a little write up I done for it a little while back along with ridley Scott's excellent - black rain.

watched ridley scott's 1989 thriller black rain starring michael douglas, andy garcia, kate kapshaw and the late Ken Takakura (mr baseball) who sadly passed away last year.

a really cool east meets west thriller with a pretty wicked hans zimmer score and some superb location shooting in osaka, japan.

picked this up on blu ray for quite a reasonable price actually and must say it looks rather good on blu (loads of neon, very stylishly shot) and it also sounds none to bad either despite having no hd audio track.

i must say i really liked black rain and i've watched it a few times now and for me it's a movie that just keeps getting better and better!

great movie and highly recommended.

 -

also picked up a very cheap used like new copy of arthur penn's 1985 thriller - target starring gene hackman and matt dillon,i've always quite enjoyed this one,i like the european settings (paris,hamburg-germany)plus hackman is terrific as ever and despite a bit of criticism i thought
matt dillon was pretty good also.

 -
peugot 205 gti these were quite nippy back in the day!

some none to bad action scenes which include a few decent car chases one including an old peugot 205 gti which is not something you see eveyday.

it does have a few flaws throughout like the scene where matt dillon changes his mind last minute on an air flight,he's meant to be be travelling to frankfurt but spots a pretty brunette that he keeps bumping into who happens to be flying to berlin so he then goes upto to the the guy at the ticket office and says i changed my mind and then just walks past him to
get onto the plane.

yeah i'd say overall it's a pretty decent thriller and considering the very mixed reviews and fair share of criticism it has picked up over the years i'd say it is pretty underrated 80s thriller.

Thanks for your take on it, warrior. And yes, you rarely go wrong with Hackman.... well he was in Superman 4 [Smile] But as a rule of thumb, you're right.
