Just got my copy in the mail today & all I can say is wow! The movie looks incredible!! After watching a crappy VHS copy for years, this is such a treat!! Definitely worth buying! Virginia looks sooo beautiful!! I'm thrilled Paramount allowed this to be released.

i received my blu rays today of red scorpion and fire with fire,i also if i remember right for the first time of ordering dvds from the states received a customs charge of a whopping £12.50p($19.73),that's more than the red scorpion blu ray actually cost, what a con. [Mad]

i explained to the royal mail sorting office employee that it was the first time i had received a customs charge even though i had ordered untold times before,he said that i had probably been riding my luck and the fact that they had bundled the 2 blu rays together and it amounted to over 30 odd dollars might be the reason i copped the extra charge. gutted!

checked fire with fire out and the picture quality is excellent ,the sound even though it's just dts hd mono also sounds very clear .

no extras to speak of but it's a great disc for fans of the movie.

You know, YW, I am clueless when it comes to how customs charges work for Canada and the UK. That's just crazy. You bought two DVDs for gosh sakes. It's not like you were importing infrared binoculars or tanks. [Smile]

That is absolutely crazy--to think that if one of your DVDs had been back-ordered and shipped separately, you wouldn't have been charged the insane customs duty.

yeh your right there crash,if only one of them had gone out of stock,i've still got the packaging here, there's a customs label on it i've just read - customs charges are applied to imports into the eu with a value over £15(23.68 dollars) for vat.

so it's actually less than 25 dollars, this is pathetic and just another excuse for them to squeeze a bit more money out of you.

my actual parcel - 2 films came to 35.22 (usd) = 22.31 gbp so i exceeded it by 7.31 gbp, at least i know in future to only order one movie at a time and to be careful with new releases in making sure they don't exceed £15 ($23).

but it sure does feel like a load of nonsense!

That's such a low threshold for the duty. Heck, most of the DVDs I buy anymore--Criterion, Synapse, Blue Underground, etc. and other special editions or TV series box sets--are all over $25. I wonder what the U.S. duty is on importing non-Region 1 DVDs?

Waste of time talking to them. They charge you for opening it - which you don't want them to do - they also charge you for *not delivering* it - which you've paid for them to do, and somehow this con goes on.

The government dropped it quietly this year from £18 to £15 after not increasing it for nearly 15 years. You can effectively import *nothing* without risking a charge.

I think US duty is around $200. If the UK duty was the same we'd almost never get stung for imports.

So do I. Need a DVD player first though...

I'm the opposite, Muffinator..

I don't like Madsen in hardly anything, but adore her in this one! And Sheffer...love him.. even as Hardy Jenns. [Wink]

I have my copy and already watched it.. awesome picture! [Smile] The movie has great tunes and it's the chemistry between the two main characters. *sigh* Romance, people!!! Ha..

+1111 for the excellent video quality on this.

I ended up finding the VHS a couple years ago for $5 and the Blu-Ray is astounding in comparison (and beautifully grainy, much better than VHS grain).

Am I the only one who now thinks Craig Sheffer has a unibrow? I never really noticed on the VHS but something about the clarity of the image just screams unibrow to me.

Uni. BROW.

PS. the theme song by Wild Blue has to be one of the greatest title tracks to a movie ever.

The "Fire With Fire" Blu-ray was so worth it! The picture quality was excellent with the colors popping in the HD for the first time ever for me.

Muffy .. did you make it to the school dance scenes? That is where the movie starts to truly draw me in the most. The tunes are fantastic and as Ronnie mentioned the chemistry is off the charts intensity. [Cool]

Here's a replay of my "Fire With Fire" thread from a year and a half ago:

"So.. whata.. studying to be a nun?"

 -

Meet Joe Fisk (Craig Sheffer).. a detention camp teenager.. when he first sees the beautifully angelic Lisa (Virginia Madsen) in the woods during a camp exercise, he completely falls for her. He doesn’t know her name or where she’s from, but with the help of his best friend Myron (JJ Cohen) he soon discovers that she probably attends a nearby Catholic school.

 -

Later that day, Lisa and her best friend go to the movies together and while joking outside ("I'm an elf in a black bra") they notice the reformatory camp bus pulling up. As the boys step off the bus, Lisa can’t believe her eyes: it’s the guy from the woods! Throughout the horror movie playing at the theater, the two can’t take their eyes off each other. It’s only eyes for the time being as Joe is stuck with the reformatory group and can't even sit with Lisa and her friend.

Back at Immaculate Hearts School For Girls.. the class is discussing ideas for their annual ‘help the community’ project. This is when Lisa unleashes an unconventional plan to invite the boys from the reformatory camp over for a dance with the hopes of meetIng this Joe Fisk guy.

From this point on is when the movie turns amazing in my opinion. The dance is fantastic and there is so much to enjoy.

 -

Like what girl wouldn't want to dance with this entertaining bunch?

Virginia Madsen once stated that she had a thing for D.B. Sweeney while making this movie.. I just can't see it especially with the apparent chemistry between Madsen and Sheffer in the movie.

 -

The tunes and the scenes between Lisa and Joe at the dance are incredible. The conversation is hilarious, but when they finally intertwine the intensity of their passion for each other is quite evident.

 -

I do have a few questions though:

1. Is it a good idea to take a group of troubled teens at an Honor Camp to see "Friday The 13th: A New Beginning"?

2. Has anyone really ever seen an Elf in a black bra?

3. Where did the Sisters from the Immaculate Hearts School For Girls acquire so many incredible tunes for the dance?

4. Was the blonde guy with those wicked breakdancing moves an extra in the movie "Footloose" as well?

5. Bit By Bit.. really? Was John Cocktosen at the dance as Robert Redford?

6. Do you think Lisa should have been concerned that the nun receptionist might have still been listen to this phone call..

 -

"JooooooeeeeeFrank"

7. I hope the stunt doubles at end of the movie were paid extra for that feat! Not really a question.. just awesome!

Finally.. you get that I enjoy this flick, but I have to list some of the tunes that along with the enchanting music score by Howard Shore helped make so many scenes from the film memorable.

Soundtrack:

Fire with Fire – Wild Blue
Computer Blue – Prince
Bit by Bit – Stephanie Mills
Heart of Rock and Roll – Huey Lewis and the News
Slave to Love – Bryan Ferry
If Anybody Had a Heart – John Waite
I’m in it For Love – James House
From Nags to Witches – Winston Sharples

"Are you studying to be a crook?"

I really want anyone that has a passion for "Fire With Fire" to share their thoughts as well. If you've never seen it.. it is currently available on Netflix instant watch.

Update.. I recommend ordering the Blu-ray!

If the people at Paramount or Olive Films ever read this thread and notice our enthusiasm regarding
their blu-ray release of Fire With Fire, hopefully it will encourage them to keep on releasing
more 70's and 80's flicks that for some reason slipped into obscurity over the years. [Smile]

Olive Films did a pretty good job, not only on Fire With Fire, but also on The Boogens, Hit! (1973)
and Hannie Caulder (1971).

Just watched it a few nights ago. Love this movie. Got to meet Virginia Madsen with Cindymancini...and I have been friends with JJ Cohen for years- he is "Myron" the Mapmaker....he is also in Secret Admirer too...I recommend both those movies for a romantic Valentine's Day double feature.
