A misbehaving teenage girl gets sent a private school /institution-of-some-kind by her parents, to sort out her behavioural problems. Her friends there begin mysteriously disappearing one by one. She's warned not to go down in to the basement but eventually descends ... to find her disappeared classmates being used for a dispicable experiment!
I remember seeing this US(?) movie on satellite in the UK around 1989/1990. The movie itself was fairly mediocre but I remember it for the ending. After the [EDITED!], there's a final scene in which [EDITED!]!
Anyone any idea of the title? It's not Argento's Phenomena (there are no killer chimps in this one!)
I've been through just about every horror flick of the period on IMdB and can find no film with a similar plot. Heeeeeeeelp!

I think I'm most likely wrong, but I saw an 80s movie similar to that. It was called either April Fools, or April Fools Day. It was about a girl who had friends over for the weekend. As the weekend past, her friends began to dissapear and their bodies were found. It was a bit gory, but very funny (the way in which her friends 'died' was unbelievable). Check it out at IMDB and let me know if it helps.

Hmmmmm, looking on IMDb, the plot sounds suspiciously similar. I don't remember it as a teen slasher movie though. Still, I'll see if I can get a cheap copy of April Fool's Day from eBay and check it out. Thanks for the reply.

Spoiler:

April Fools' Day shares a similar ending with this film.. but I don't believe this is the movie you're looking for (April Fools' Day takes place at a vacation house..). Nevertheless.. AFD is a great 80's horror movie..

I'm sure it ain't AFD as the reveal is the last scene in the film. Any other ideas, folks?

Yes, I'm still looking for this film, seven years on [Big Grin]

I'm almost positive it is april fools day because part of the "game" involves one of the sisters being sent to an institution.

It sounds kind of like Suspiria to me except for the 'April Fool's Day' style ending. Suspiria goes in a whole other direction...

7 1/2 year update !

Nope, it's definitely not April Fool's Day! I managed to get my hands on a copy and have just watched it. Although there is mention of an institution in AFD, I recall that all the action takes place in one (or a school of some sort). After more investigation, I think a likely contender maybe Fright House. The second story of the film, as described in the reviews, seems to fit what I remember. Thanks for the replies. The search continues ...

Solved at last after over 8 years of searching! It wasn't Fright House but I think I've nailed the title: Love Potion (aka Shock Treatment) (Trailer) It looks quite good too .... I've just got to hunt a copy down now :/
