wow I haven't been here for quite a while, kinda feel like Marty at the cafe 80s in 2015... [Cool]

I just heard they're making a movie out of 80's arcade game 'spyhunter' with that classic method actor The Rock [Wink] what kinda games did eveyone used to play back in the day and which ones would make for good movies today?...I always remeber those movig subs of 'AfterBurner', Chase HQ and though I was no good at it: the classic and oh so cool 'Out Run', always Guy in 'Final Fight' or Streethawk in the Sinclair ZX Spectrum + 2 classic, btw I began loading 'odd job eddie' in 1989 and I think it's just about done [Wink]

I liked the more unusal ones: Paperboy is my all time fave, one called Tapper, Kung Fu Master, Super Mario Bros, and of course, the grandfather of them all, Pac Man.

Actually went nuts this weekend trying to download some 80s games. All the sites want money or registeration for two hours or have cheap knock offs. Found a cool Pac Man one which was pretty authentic, the music, the splat noise when he died, the graphics.

Amazing what they can do to emulate nowadays.

Devolution here,

It's a PC game, it's really not that great, the games aren't the good ones.

there is an Activision version though that is fairly good.

Oh, that was my game! I loved Pitfall!

And Centipede (I can still feel the edges of my hands getting pinched in the seam of the rollerball)...and Tempest...and TRON!

Know which one used to tick me off? Friggen Q- Bert. Stupid thing would always fall off. Hmph.

Tron would make a good movie.

::waits:: [Roll Eyes]

I'M KIDDING PEOPLE! I did hear that Disney was threatening to remake Tron. Just know, if that happens, y'all are going to see me on the six o'clock news. I'll be the one with my foot being surgically removed from Eisner's bum.

I've mentioned this before.. but a friend and I would ride our bikes to a local arcade almost daily as kids. The arcade was called Cheap Thrills and we spent every quarter we had there. We later graduated to the arcades at the malls.. those were fun times. And even though I have owned numerous gaming systems throughout the years.. nothing compares to those arcade days.

I will occasionally still visit places like Dave & Buster's just to get that arcade feel.

Well, I've played many arcade games over the years, but my favorite will always be:

Galaga

 -

 -

Here a few more to remember...

Star Castle - not as popular, but I could play on a single quarter for quite awhile.

Asteroids - simplistic graphically, but tons of fun.

Tempest - a must for any "Night of the Comet" fan or if your initials are DMK.

Donkey Kong - extremely popular and coined the phrase "it's on like Donkey Kong".

Joust - who doesn't dream of being an ostrich flying knight?

Defender - mainly because Nick mentioned it ... I prefer Space Invaders and Missile Command though the spaceship in Defender did have a "Star Wars" look to it.

Pac-Man - never my game, but I donated a few coins at times.

Space Invaders - great game, but Galaxian and Galaga were both better.

Dig Dug - I had some skills for this game and enjoyed it, but there was a threshold of pain that I could not get past.

Paperboy - fun game that was later turned into a movie called "Better Off Dead".. ha

and finally:

Centipede - every good arcader knows about this game... but the great arcaders know it is really all about your skills at Millipede .. because that is where most of the cute arcade girls can be found. [Wink]

First, step away from the shovel [Wink]

Had Superdog locally where my brother could always be found, then the Sega Center was at the mall. Straight up pinball for me, the local pizza place had an awesome Terminator one until just a few years ago.

Terminator was the best because not only was it super fun to play, you could get three plays for $1 and it would match you often. Also the manager would put quarters in to play it during downtime, so sometimes you could get a free game [Smile]

Man I used to skip out of school early (shhh don't tell my mom) take the bus to the arcade it was called boulevard fever. I remember I used to save my lunch money for the games and they had a high score board with all the games in the arcade. And if you beat one of the high scores you would win a hot dog and drink so if I wanted luch I would have to play my butt off.
Here are the games I loved.
Bubble Bobble
Gauntlet
Arm wrestling
Battle Zone
Stat wars

Pyro-

Are you from the US? I think we only had Splatterhouse (the first one) on a wonderful system called TurboGrafx. Looks like a remake is in the works: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splatterhouse

We were most familiar with Splatterhouse 2 & 3 for Sega Genesis.

arcade games-are you kiddin me. i didnt know any kid other than my best friend who played arcade games more than us. we were the best in our area by far. the amount of money spent, the amount of hours . . .i think i had about 40-50 games on atari.
Karate champ - started with this at age 10 and became addicted very quickly.
shinobe - finished it maybe 50 times after months of playing it every weekend maybe $10 every satuarday for months and months money. probably about $400
wonderboy - hundreds of dollars
double dragon - maybe about $300. finished it loads of times - over a hundred easily
elevator action - spent about $100. My friend and i cracked into how to get credits with a fishing line and a coin after spending so much money. We had a coin drilled at school in manual arts class just so we could play a game....better than drugs/alcohol at any age.
Ghost and goblins
super mario bros
space ace
galaga
bomb jack
ladybug
pacman
asteroids
defender
mariana
kungfu master - the list is endless really
I had a colecovision, atari 1500, atari2600, commodore 64, sega master system, nintendo.

if anyone knows where i can get my hands on wonderboy/shinobe/super mario/double dragon original arcade game let me know coz i want to buy one.

this is a very good list, but it's missing the best game from the 80's, ROBOTRON. that was my favorite game along with pac man.

the video game 720 was really fun to play too.

there was this store by my house that had a game called Congorilla, which was basically donkey kong, it just looked a little different and the order of the boards was different. i was much better at that than the original donkey kong.

also, the indiana jones game was fun.

galaga was just ok in my books.. .and i really never liked pinball at all too expensive aswell and it never lasted long enough for me
so i just never bothered with them. these arcade games have evolved and improved faster than the 80s movies did...look at the arcade games at the begginning of the decade and at the end...completely different. Such a shame they make games like they do now. i wish there was an 80s arcade just round the corner, id spend my whole salary there probably. Riding my skateboard or bike to the shop across from the beach with no worries other than the smell of the ocean, the sound of the games beeping, then doing tricks on the way home to impress girls...damn i miss that time...things were too simple.
