my copy of spring break has just arrived this morning, looked at the back cover there's a slight split in the sleeve picture, opened up the case and it turns out it's one of those crummy eco cases !

basically with all these holes in the back and front of the case there's just not enough support there for the sleeve picture !

i'm all for saving the planet but even more so my dvd covers!

anyone else hate these eco cases or am i just ranting!

Warrior.. the correct terminology on the Rewind is ..

Kev's Crappy Cardboard Covers

The don't order "Vision Quest" Crappy Cardboad Covers discussion!

I'm just waiting for Kev to show up .. his eyes will light up when he sees this thread. ha.. [Big Grin]

Jay Lee.. those security stickers drive me crazy .. especially the old style ones that rip the DVD case apart to get undone. And stickering all three sides for a movie that probabaly only one of us would buy in a bargain bin.. co uncool. [Frown]

Ha Helen.. those are even worse than Crappy Cardboard Covers!

The movie "Spring Break" really came in that type of case? wow.. I wonder if we will start seeing people on Amazon advertising DVDs with sturdy old school cases?

yeh valley that would make me laugh but it wouldn't surprise me if we did get to see people advertising there films as sold in old school cases!

stickers on all 3 sides, holes in the covers, someone, somewhere is having a good old laugh at us!

Good evening friends...thought I'd stop by and....ARRRGHHHHHHHHH........CARDBOARD COVERS!!!!

Thanks Valley for the old links. I continue my "hate on" for the cardboard covers and continue to actively replace them with "true" copies. Some may think I over play my dislike for these covers just to have fun on the Rewind...slightly true...but I really really hate them that much! [Frown] [Mad]

I have learned to not pass them up though, when I see them in stores. Rare enough to find an 80's movie I don't have, so I need to start nabbin em' all. I do, however, look to replace them when I can.

On a slightly similar note, I've also come to hate double, triple, quaddruple, etc DVD sets....as much as I hate the cardboard covers. Certainly a space saver, however, I believe our 80's treasures need to stand alone...get the credit they each deserve....not to be bunched up like stalks of celery! Who's with me here?!

I got rid of all my dvd cases, and most of my dvds are in slip sleeves with slits for labels and information. I debated for a long time on whether or not I should have done it. And one day I just finally did it. Well, it took more than one day. [Wink] I kept the cover art sleeves and booklets that I wanted to. The cases were taking up space, IMO. I have everything separated by genre, horror, family, concerts, documentaries...etc.

I personally hate those DVD boxes that have an outer cardboard sleeve that totally matches the dvd cover inside. What's the point.

However, all of my DVD boxes are in storage as I keep my DVD's stored in boxes like this...

Reason #856 why I love the Rewind...this thread!!

I'm so happy to know I'm not alone in my frustration with this issue!

To quote Mrs. Shumaker from Dirty Dancing these new eco dvd cases are "junk, such junk!"

Additionally, I opened a new DVD two days ago...it took me forever to get the darn shrink wrap started cause I didn't have anything sharp near me & then to remove all three stickers from the top, bottom & side!

And then because the dvd must have been sealed a while ago, the glue from those stickers was extra sticky & left adhesive on all three sections of the case so everytime I touched the darn thing, it felt gross! So I had to go to the other side of the house for the bottle of Goo-Gone & then sit there & spray very accurately the case, wait & then wipe away all the stickiness & then wipe away all of the greasiness & then finally I could relax!

Opening a new dvd should not be this much work! Grrrr!! Took the thrill right away for me!

And JAYLEE, I feel your pain...I ripped off part of Blake Carrington's hair, while trying to remove that top sticker, on my one volume of Dynasty! I'm still mad about it! UGH!!!!

They don't seal up biohazardous material as well as they do DVDs. It's ridiculous. I bought a copy of the double feature of "Trucker Turner" and "Hammer"--and WalMart saw the need to stick a cardboard cover (trumpeting "Soul Cinema" collection) to the plastic DVD case. I didn't have any Goo-Gone and spent the rest of the evening picking glue off of the case. I've read about this gadget for a while and thought that it was an awful lot of money, but I may have to spring for it:

DVD Opener

When it comes to DVD packaging quirks, nothing is more irritating than those awful security labels that are attached to the top, side, and bottom of the case. It's even worse when you can't even peel them off in one shot. I can't tell you how many DVDs I've bought where I tried to peel the security labels away, but only small pieces would come off and I'd have to peel the rest little by little.

One of the worst experiences I've had with security labels happened about two months ago when I bought a copy of Larry Cohen's The Stuff. This time the top label was attached to the top part of the cover sleeve. This meant that if I tried to peel it away, it would rip part of the sleeve! Argh! I did remove some of it, but the rest I had no choice but leave on the sleeve. Peeling any more of it would have destroyed the top part of the sleeve.

Valley, I completely echo your sentiments about security stickers. Has anyone ever tried to start a petition to get the studios to stop this? If they realized how these labels can potentially destroy the cover sleeves (as it almost happened to me), they'd clean up their act. Wishful thinking, I suppose.
