What I mean is how do you roll the credits and wrap it all up? Simple fade to black cue good music roll credits? But what color text do you use? Also what gernera of film are you doing, how does this effect your decision?

Personally my favorite, My Science Project credits cue awesome song, credits over top pictures of iconic frames from the movie.

My Science Project was a fantastic choice! One of my faves too.

In John Carpenter movies, his magical tunes did the job.
I also remember that he used the same font in most of his films, much like Woody Allen.

Most Jackie Chan movies end with bloopers and outtakes playing while the end-credits roll.
It's a nice little personal touch for Jackie's fans, i think.

Another Film that ends like My Science Project, Fletch. Stills of the movie played under the credits to the tune of Bit by Bit Stephanie mills.

Far too many movies these days run a blooper reel over the credits. It's pointless - save it for the dvd.

And what is it with the fad for an 'original song' that has nothing to do with the movie, but is simply a vehicle for some inane tune that makes the movie more appeling to fans of the band?

Preference is for simple black on white scrolling text, after a fade to black. And music that actually relates to the movie you've just watched.

I disagree !

I thought we were talking about 80s movies. Back then there was no dvd and no bonus features.
And it also depends on what kind of movie it is. I mean, fans of Jackie Chan would be dissapointed
if there was no outtakes- / blooper montage at the end of his movies. He's been doing that for
over thirty years. When The Naked Gun put all kinds of silly jokes in the end-credits, it was
funny as hell. It's in style with the rest of the movie. But if Out of Africa would have ended
with a blooper-montage it would have been misplaced.
The use of pop-songs in movies has always been questionable, because chances are they make the movie
feel dated within a couple of years after it came out.

One of the best endings in movies ever would have to be The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.
It just stops.. leaving you practically paralyzed. The extremely odd music (or sounds)
at the end as well as at the beginning helps tremendously to enhance the mood.
It's just priceless !

The best use of pop-songs in any movie would have to be in Easy Rider.
(and another great end to that one as well)

Devolution here,

I kind of always liked movies that had a conclusion, where you found out what happened to all the characters.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Blew the reward, hiring Van Halen to play his birthday.

Another type of ending I like as well The burbs, Trading Places where they show a clip of the actor and show his or her credit over it.

Another good one freeze frame on the final shot of the movie and play the credits over top of it, like Rambo First Blood
