Albert and Lucy fall in love, get married, and have a daughter Casey. Everything is wonderful, till success in business distract Albert and Lucy from each other and Casey. They soon divorce and start fighting so Casey beats sues to divorce her parents, to go live with the maid who has been taking care of her. This was a decent comedy/drama directed by Charles Shyer (Baby Boom, Father of the Bride) Starring Ryan O´Neal, Shelley Long, Drew Barrymore and Sharon Stone.
The premise was interesting but this was a bit too much drama for my taste. Maybe the people who have gone through a divorce, in one way or another, can identify better with the characters. The cast surely did a good job.
Here´s some trivia:
1. The movie is loosely based on the marriage and divorce of director Peter Bogdanovich and his ex-wife Polly Platt.
2. Sharon Stone's character is modeled upon Cybill Shepherd, a former lover of Peter Bogdanovich.
3. At fifteen years old, Drew Barrymore legally emancipated herself from her parents. In 2009, she told "60 Minutes" that she had first learned such a thing was possible from starring in this movie six years earlier.
Naturally Bogdanovich himself has said that ID "is a terrible movie"
Oh yeah, Sharon Stone can be seen topless here, already in her second feature film. I own also "Deadly Blessing" (1981) but i haven´t watched it yet. Of course she could be naked in that one too
Irreconcilable Differences was released on DVD as part of Lionsgate's "Lost Collection" series.
I never really got into it. Drew Barrymore was in her first prime at this point in time which begs the question: what other child star or stars were in a lot of fairly good movies before their teen years only to fade and resurface in their 20's?

i used to love watching when i was little. i remember being shocked at the scene when drew tells her dad off, about not paying child support haha. it used to make me feel bad for o'neal's character. i don't have divorced parents, so i recall feeling uptight watching this movie, thinking how awful that must be for a kid.
i saw several years ago on cable, but it had been so long before that, since i had seen it. i immediately noticed sharon stone that time, but when i was younger, i had no idea who she was.

I watched it like Ronnie when I was little.
I bought the VHS maybe a couple months ago on one of my sprees.
I'll watch it soon and let you know if I still like it as much.I actually don't think I knew that was Sharon Stone until you guys just brought it up.

More people need to say this. Shelley seemed omnipresent in the 80's, but was almost completely forgotten as soon as the decade ended. I'm a Shelley Long fan, too!
I remember feeling ambivalent about the subject matter of ID when I was a kid, and I think I only saw it once. I do, however, remember the advert being on loads of what I think were CBS releases ("Movies in a box from CBS Fox")
