OK....here's my small gripe. Everytime you guys discuss a movie, I put it on the top of my "To Watch" list, but before I get to watch it...you start talking about another movie! Do you realize how much time I actually spend sitting and just staring at my movies...painfully trying to decide which one to watch. I'm not kidding when I say there have been times I just simply go to bed without watching anything, as I literally couldn't decide what to watch. I think my problem is that with my now busy life, I have little time to watch movies, so when I finally get the time...I want to enjoy it...thus...I tend to pick some of the classics that I know I'll love, versus, taking a chance on an 80's movie I haven't seen.

So, I'm wondering...how do you guys decide? How often do you pick that classic that you've seen a dozen times...and how often do you take the plunge on a new one? Also kinda curious...how often does everyone actually get to watch an 80's movie. * I've convinced myself that aTomik is somehow gaining internet access from jail...a wizzard hacker maybe? How in THE LOVE OF HE** ARE YOU ABLE TO WATCH ALL THESE MOVIES....EXPLAIN YOURSELF aTomik!!! WHAT'S GOING ON HERE....YOU SEEM LIKE A NICE GUY...I'M TRYING TO LIKE YOU BUT I RAGE WITH JEALOUSY....ARRGHHHH....ARRGHHH.....!!!!

aTomiK here, straight from the nearest jailhouse [Big Grin]

Choosing the flick:

It´s very random.
Most of the time i just pick one from the shelf, no matter who´s the star and so on...
Sometimes a certain movie has been discussed here and if i happen to have it, i´ll check it out.

Then there´s these theme nights when i watch several flicks including certain actor, director etc.
Very rarely i watch a movie that´s on tv at the moment.

Also, my brother may visit and tell that "you really need to see this one! This is what you must watch next"

I want to explore "new" movies so i´m not watching the old classics very often.
But what we did with 16 Candles was great!

It´s always nice to stare and enjoy the collection
but it´s even better to put the tape/disc in the player and watch the movie, kev [Cool]

Watching the flick:

It all depends how much sleep do you need. I watch most of the movies at night, 9PM-2AM.
Everyone else sleeps and i have my peace [Smile] Some refreshments and snacks on the side and press play.

Very rarely i watch a movie with other family members or with anyone else.

If it´s any consolation kev, even i am struggling sometimes
and i really envy the Styx members singing too much time on my hands

Keep adding to your queue and let the movies roll in and just press play. Every movie is worth watching specially from the 80's.

LOL Kevin!!

So my story is I buy so many movies cheap....vhs,used DVD's, I have a huge pile I haven't even touched and never seen.

My movie watching time is usually when i'm winding down or going to sleep at night and in the morning before work drinking my coffee,I don't work til 10am.

I'm the same with getting in a mood to watch something.........i'm always asking "what have you watched? what did you watch?" for ideas!

Plus the Rewind steers me in a direction alot of thew time......I have Netlfix too. haha I just watched a cheesy girl flick the other night on the instant watch that I won't even admit to you guys.....I'll just say (ABC Family) [Big Grin]

So at least you try Kevin!! You're busy,i'm sure when your son gets a little older you'll watch movies together!!! how cool........and you can see what he thinks of your favorites.....look forward to that [Smile]

Oh, wow, can I relate to these stories! I have about three dozen movies in my NetFlix queue and an unbelievably huge pile of DVDs and VHS tapes of movies that I've never watched. (I'm ashamed to admit that I have a Jeremy Irons movie, "Moonlighting" (1982), that I recorded off of Cinemax in the mid-80's that I've never watched--wonder if the tape is still good?--and a bunch of DVDs with the shrink wrap still on.) I do know this: These things that we all do mark us as true movie buffs. No doubt there... [Smile]

One of my dreams is to one day be a programmer for a film festival. I'd pick two movies for a double feature retrospective that would run from midnight until the wee hours, and I'd introduce them onstage to an excited, enthusiastic, and extremely intoxicated crowd. (Colin Geddes, who believe has video store clerk as his day job, does this for the Midnight Madness section at the Toronto International Film Festival every year. I envy him.) I can even hear myself giving the opening: "Tonight, prepare to be scared sh**less because we have, for the first time together, two masterpieces from director Pupi Avati: "The House With Windows that Laugh" and "Zeder, Voices from the Darkness." It's obscure 80's Italian horror at its best so get ready to grab your drink and grab the person next to you..."

Thanks for sharing guys. I think soon I'll scan my entire 80's collection and seperate the ones I've never seen...then start picking away at them.

*aTomiK...just razzin' of course...I love how you're so passionate about your movie watching and how you share ll of your insight.

* Fightertowm....I keep adding all right...my favorite thing to do is scan the old movie bins to try to find an 80's classic I don't have. Happening less and less though, so may soon have to buy primarily on line.

*Muffy....already watching movies with my little guy...his favorite Christmas movies are Charlie Brown's Christmas, and The Chimpmunks Christmas...which happen to be a couple of my favs....what a coincidence?

*Crash...when we all watched Sixteen Candles together, I was checking out a few things on youtube. There was a clip of a Jon Cryer interview, where there was a crowd of people in an old theatre there to watch Sixteen Candles...Cryer was there to answer questions before the movie and then watched it with them....how cool would that be to do with all your favs.....
