I've been watching Lucas while getting ready for work....and the opening credits really are lovely and unique....Lucas font in cursive alongside a locust and the shots of Lucas with his net are actual very picturesque.

One thing I notice alot are so many 80's movies have the worst fonts and graphics for credits haha

yet some have the best....ie: Cartoon opening credits....MANNEQUIN! TROOP BEVERLY HILLS! TBH always comes to mind because I went and saw it in the theater with my Girl Scout group and the opening credits are my most vivid memory.

Got any favorite opening credits?

How about "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" and how it introduced us to all the main characters .. Sherman Oaks Galleria style!

Summer School

Summer vacation is almost there.. (or so we thought). Everyone is turning in their books (some ripped, some still brand new). We get introduced to Chainsaw, Dave, Mr. Shoop and the others, on the great Danny Elfman tune: Happy.
And that is exactly what this introduction makes me every time I see it: HAPPY.

The Burbs

Another opening credit I like very much.
The film starts with the Universal 'globe' logo but keeps zooming in on it, till we reach the Klopek's house.
Then... a dramatic organ chord... [Eek!]

maanequin -in your wildest dreams/belinda c was a good song for the cartoon opening was always great to watch. I also liked thrashin at the time it was out. But anyone with ADD must have liked the goonies. My all time favourite though has got to be Jack burton/kurt Russel driving the truck with that guitar music in Big trouble In Little China.

The opening of Tuff Turf. A dark, urban, foreboding setting with Marianne Faithfull's immistakeable croak playing while James Spader is riding his bike.

Thrashin. The way they get the whole of Coreys road trip into the opening credits and it sets the scene for the whole film.

great topic!

i agree about troop beverly hills with the animation and the beach boys song, "make it big." i love that song!

i like sixteen candles opening with kajagoogoo and the high school sequences.

i even like the opening credits to return of the living dead with the scary theme music and the movie showing how everything comes in to play with the chemical getting out into the graveyard.

I love the Goonies opener! Also really enjoy Fast Times, man I love that movie.

Ghostbusters and Back to the Future get two thumbs up as well.

In a sleepy state I watched a movie A Little Sex last night but the intro was so 80's

The flame of a match close up....then it lights a cigarette....the credits start coming in, cursive in neon pink....lol then the whole time with a black background you watch the cigarette burn til it's inches of ash and falls....totally creative opening for a long drama about cheating.

Its commencing credits are well worthy of mention.

One of my favorite opening 80's scenes still has to be "Ghostbusters". Even though the credits don't actually appear until after the opening scene....I think that'd still count, right?...

Other honorable mentions: Ladyhawke, Short Curcuit, RAD, Dirty Dancing, Rocky IV, The Outsiders, Pee-Wee's Big Adventure, Poltergeist (for the intro music...still one of the creepiest.), Spaceballs, Staying Alive, UHF, Little Shop of Horrors....ect..ect.

Galaxy of Terror.

The desolate, barren landscape giving way to the crashed spaceship is very eerie. [Frown] [Eek!]
