I think mine's National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. I sure miss Chevy. I think my favourite scene is when Clark's on his own in the loft watching old home made videos from the 50s to the Ray Charles song 'Spririt Of Christmas'.

I LOVE christmas vacation too the best scene is when Clark is in bed trying to read a magazine with sticky sap all over fingers hahahahahaaaaa. I also like Santa Claus the movie because it takes me back to when i was a kid watching it for the first time around christmas

Mac should really have been Oscar nominated that year (not necessarily the win, just the nod). Cynics tend to deride HA as pointless nonsense, but like with everything else in Hughes's universe, there's so much more to see beneath the surface. I simply love Kevin McCallister as a character; he's good hearted and hard working and willing to unconditionally accept responsibility for his actions (name just one child in film today with that capacity). It takes a lot of courage to stand up to 2 guys who despite their stupidity have clear intent on harming you. He does, and does it in the most spectacularly enjoyable way imaginable. And like many other Hughesians characters, his end smile means something, that giving another person the gift of company for Christmas is the greatest gift there is. Or at least until your brother ruins the moment (that's the only real drawback for me, that Buzz never does get his comeuppance on camera (although Mom did scream him down in the novelization when he cracked that Kevin might survive for a month a liquid diet)).

Mickey's Christmas Carol is my absolute favorite. Other favorites include Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas and A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott version).

It begins and ends with A Christmas Story. Silent Night Deadly Night is also good. All the South Park Christmas episodes are good especially Woodland Critter Christmas.

It isn't from the 80s but, I always have to watch It's A Wonderful Life. I like watching Gremlins, one of my favourite films, it captures the atmosphere of christmas perfectly. My all time favorite Christmas movie is the Nutcracker Prince...paul schibli's. Haven't seen it in a while though. It was a Christmas movie ritual along with A Christmas story every year for years.

#1 Mixed Nuts with Steve Martin.... Not many have seen it, but it is an hilarious Christmas film! #2 Silent Night, Deadly Night....PUNISH!!!!! #3 White Christmas (although it isn't very Christmasy till the end).... I always wanted to sing like Rosemary Clooney.

It's pretty good considering it didn't get too much press with an all-star cast. Steve's the master of the slow burn, and if you had to spend a night with a transvestite and Sandler playing a ukelele badly, who could blame him? Probably Juliette Lewis "emptying" the gun--and taking out Gary Schandling in the process--is the most amusing part.

Mixed Nuts is pretty good. I did watch it this year. It has such a great cast of characters in it. Why do they mess with Steve's hair though? I don't understand that really.

Among the animated films that are great for me:
-the Big 4, naturally (Rudolph, Frosty, Charlie Brown, & the Grinch) -Mickey's Christmas Carol (naturally) -Twas the Night Before Christmas ("I know, ker-plunk." "Ker-plooie.") -A Garfield Christmas Special -A Claymation Christmas -A Muppet Family Christmas (the best the entire franchise ever was and ever will be) -Emmett Otter -Christmas Eve on Sesame Street -The Bells of Fraggle Rock (a regular episode to be sure, but a darn fine holiday one at that) -Yes Virginia, There is a Santa Claus -A Very Merry Cricket -Yogi's First Christmas -The Christmas Tree Train (I think that's the title, with Buttons the bear and Rusty the fox, stars of many holidays special on the USA Cartoon Express back in the day) -Xmas Marks the Spot (another regular episode, but wonderfully done showing the consequence of the Ghostbusters capturing Scrooge's ghosts and thus ruining the holidays for everyone else ("I'll do it for you, Egon, and not for...for..." "Christmas, Jeannine?" "HUMBUG!!" "Fascinating.")) -The Glo-Friends Save Christmas -The Christmas Express
Of Christmas episodes of regular shows, two stand out: Night Court's Xmas episode (I don't know the exact season) where they all get snowed in the courthouse and Bull freezes solid trying to go for help (leading to them hilariously trying to defrost him stark nude in a large barrel, prompting a great take from the fire chief when help does arrive), and Alf's first season Christmas show where he cuts up the Tanners' tree, then gets stranded in the woods with Willie trying to cut down a new one ("If I'm not back when Santa gets there, I'll sue you.")
