Devolution here,

Some movies are happy, funny or hysterical. Some movies are happy with a serious part here or there. And then there are parts in movies that you can't really watch because you know you are going to cry.

Today, I was watching (what I could) of MASK.

Now the whole movie is sad. But nothing is as sad as the part when the biker with the studder tells Rocky that he's proud of him.

Man, that was hard to sit through.

What are some of the saddest scenes in movie history?

I'd love to hear them.

WE are DEVO

The one that almost makes me go to tears every time is in La Bamba when the family hears over the radio that Ritchie died and when Esai Morales yells out Ritchie.

Man that whole part sends shivers through my body every time.

Definitely has to be one of the saddest moments in movie history.

The one movie that had quite the reputation of making people cry, was The Champ (1979)
starring Jon Voight.

Haven't seen it in over 25 years though.

I just watched Pan's Labyrinth again the other day and I was getting pretty choked up by the end. This is the first time I've bought myself to sit through the whole thing since first seeing it in the theatre. The movie is still widely considered one of the most dramatic and imaginitive films of the entire 2000 decade.

I don't remember being this drawn into it when I first saw it. But I was this time around for some reason. But it's definitely a heavy film filled with some awesome visuals and some very sad moments.

I always cry too when I watch LaBamba. From the time they get on the plane till the end when Ritchie's brother Bob screams, "Ritchie!!!" I boo hoo.

Lucas always makes me cry, when the jocks give Lucas the letterman's jack. It's even sadder now that Corey Haim's not with us anymore. [Frown]

I won't even discuss ET. I blubber uncontrollably at the end.

If we're talking non-80s movies, My Life and 8 Seconds get me every time too.

Rocky III when Mickey dies. That was sad and unexpected the first time I saw it.

one that comes to mind is a part on the shawshank redemption where the letter from brooks is being read by brooks and he is talking about life on the outside and he mentions that he goes to the park all the time looking for his former pet bird jake, and he says i keep looking for him but he never shows up.

just the way he said it, in the defeated old man voice was sad, but it was so sad to the point where it became kind of funny. and it is weird because when i think of that part i end up quite conflicted

does that happen to anyone else?

White Fire. When Boris and Sam find the corpses of Ingrid and Josepha (their corresponding sister and wife) after they have both been murdered.

Boris' reaction is very sorrowful. [Frown]

I saw MASK (not the cartoon, I love that!) as a kid and it made me choke back the tears, that's for sure. Same deal with E.T. ;_;

Return to Oz, think I had to be taken out of the cinema for that one [Razz]

Gallipoli. Archie Hamilton being killed by a barrage of Turkish machine gun fire while charging the Turkish trench at the Nek following his mate Frank Dunne screaming agonisingly, having arrived too late with his message from the beach that the attack is effectively cancelled after the soldiers have gone over the top of the trench only to be mowed down.

Not an '80s movie, but The Crow. I like Brandon Lee, and his performance in that movie was so good. I always think about what a career he might have had.
