Just reported on Fox News. Can't find a link for any story online about it.

Sad day. Great filmmaker. He has been and will be missed.

I'll not soon forget the many happy afternoons I spent in Shermer, Illinois.

Bueller? Bueller?

He was only 59, and died of a sudden heart attack while in Manhattan. Very sad news.

Unbelievable, first Jacko now John: John Hughes WAS the 80s, the one director who best defined the decade.

I can't bring myself to be too sad about this. I wish he could have lived longer, but Mr. Hughes seems like he had a pretty good life and a lot of fun with it.

He created worlds that will live on in his absence and characters we won't soon forget and will introduce to our children who I am sure will quote them and smile at just as much as we did! He left too early, but good for him on the life he led. I wish the same for all of us [Smile]

In a strange way, then, fitting that he and Candy would go the same way; they came into the world pretty much together, and left it pretty much together. Perhaps as it should be. But let's cry not; as Hugh Harris would say, the Rhythm of Life has a curious sound; the beat goes on, and the rhythm goes round. So let's keep the beat going on; we are the keepers of the wisdom the people of Shermer have given us over the years, let's continue to share it with all who come to these hallowed halls. It'll make the world a better place for them, just like Hughes made it a better place for all of us.

Shocking news! R.I.P. John.

The beat sure will go on. My son has watched Planes, Trains... 3 times and Vacation 2 times
and he doesn´t even know how to read yet.
I don´t tell him to watch the flicks, he WANTS to watch!

Wow, what can you say! At first I was shocked, then a little sad, followed by happiness. Knowing that he touched so many people with the many films he created.

I mean look at that list of films. There are just so many good movies that I've loved since my childhood and continue to love now. Movies that will continue to be enjoyed by generations to come.

Thanks for all the memories Johh!

Those that know me on Facebook, I've posted a number of trailers to his movies there.

He was a uniquely talented writer, director, producer, and film-maker. he understood the genre and the decade so well, you always saw the movie unfold through the eyes of his characters. No big stunts, no major CGI, simply good actors delivering quality dialogue in a believable manner, guided by the hand of a master craftsman.

they did a nice little piece of hughes this morning, on the today show. at the end of the segment, they showed a few pictures of him while playing "don't you forget about me", by simple minds. so fitting. [Frown]

What a shame... A legend has passed away.

In a very big way, John Hughes WAS the 80s. Anyone who grew up in the 80s watching the magic that this man brought to the screen has lost someone very special.

This truly makes me sick. I got a text about this while I have been on vacation in Alabama and I rushed to the tv to see if it was true. John Hughes created the most wonderful character in the 80's that gave so many girls hope that there was a great guy out there for them. Jake Ryan will forever be my favorite male character. A tragic loss in the film industry. I cannot wait to get to my computer at home and check out all of the praise that he has received. I know that this truly comes from all of us at the rewind when I say "John we will forever love you".
