I watched it over the weekend. It is so funny. One of the parts I like is when they are at the neighborhood block party and they are trying to socialize with everyone, and the 2 guys are arguing over what brand of lawn mower Jake has.

I love it, cause it is so realistic to to me personally on married life. I like when "Christy" is screaming about Alec Baldwin's girlfriend...about how she'd have to burn the sheets after she sleeps on them.

I love the beginning when the preacher is doing the wedding vows, and "Jake" perceives them completely different, and the whole list of stuff that they go through...and then he says..you may kiss the bride, but don't mess up her hair or her face, cause she still has to have her picture taken...and then he looks at him and says "go for it".

I just think it is hysterical...I hadn't seen it in a long time.
There's just little clips all through it that crack me up because it is so clued in to married life.

I have realized though recently that there are not many married people here though on the Rewind. In fact I can only actually think of a few that are. That is actually an interesting part of the Rewind.

Devolution here,

Good movie, not great. I saw it in the movies. This was during the real Kevin Bacon boom.

Even though I've always liked anything John Hughes had a hand in writing or directing, I only just saw this for the first time about six months ago.

I would call it a good movie (kinda one of those "comedy/drama's"), but one that takes some time to grow on you (both storywise and getting to really know the characters). It's not as quick-paced as, say Uncle Buck, or Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

P.S. I LOVED finally getting to see the "burn the sheets" scene! If you're familar with Planes Trains & Automobiles (which I instantly liked when I first saw it around twelve years ago), there's a scene where that line is on the TV Neil's wife is watching back at home. [Wink]

I love the chemistry that Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth McGovern had. They totally came across as a couple in love. Someone who knew what they wanted, even if they were scared. I wish that we could see some more films like this today.

Rewatched She´s Having a Baby and it´s a good movie.
There´s so much John and Nancy Hughes in this film that it´s almost a biopic.
And when it bombed in the box office i think that John died a little. He didn´t write about himself anymore.

The leading stars are very good and there´s lots of familiar faces from earlier Hughes films in the supporting roles.
Fun film with a very dramatic ending.

I didn't see "She's Having a Baby" when it first came out in '88 because the subject matter didn't interest me. I was in my teens back in the '80's, and could relate a lot more to the earlier teen films like PIP, Breakfast Club, etc.

I did see SHAB film years later, and it still fell flat for me - even though I should have been able to appreciate this much more as an adult. In retrospect, I actually saw it as Hughes' more "adult" film - i.e., this was a movie about what was going to happen when the teens in his earlier films became adults - i.e., they would become responsible by getting professional jobs & having families, etc.

The use of "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush in that classic hospital scene is brilliant, one of the best song cues to a movie scene ever. (As I've said before, it would take a hard heart indeed not to be moved by how Hughes sets up and plays that scene out.) I read that Hughes delayed the film until Bush finished writing the song specifically for that scene. Overall, it's probably Hughes's most adult, most underrated film.

Is this movie dark at all or am I thinking of a different movie about someone having a baby?
