maybe some of the the british peeps here can help me out since i believe this was a british movie from the early 80's. i don't know if this was a movie or some after school special show. i watched this sometime around 1982 on hbo.

all i can remember is it was about this tall, blonde haired, nerdy kinda guy and a friend. they were playing on their schools soccer team and this really cute girl tried out for the team, which was a big deal, and she made the team. the tall guy had a crush on her but was too awkward to ask her out. he finally does and she accepts. they go on their date but about half way through the date(which they seemed to be having a good time) she pawns him off to some other girl. i don't remember why, other than maybe the cute soccer girl wasn't that into him, and i don't think he really minded going out with this other girl. then i think he gets pawned off onto a third girl during the same night.

i don't remember if it was good or not but i was just curious as to what movie this was. thanks for the help.

It's very good. Written/Directed by Bill Forsyth who went on to make the classic 'Local Hero'. They were both amongst the few great British films of the 80's.

The girl he ends up with is Clare Grogan, who became the lead singer of Altered Images:

again the people on this site have come through for me. three for three in finding old movies from the 80's that i've forgotten about.

i would definitely like to check this movie out again. maybe it was because i was only like 11 or 12 when i saw it, but i remember being confused with this movie as far as the main character not getting the soccer girl. and i saw it a few times because hbo was running it all month. i'll have to see if netflix carries it. i'll also have to go read a summary of this movie to see what it was i wasn't getting back then.

and talk about coincidence, but just yesterday i downloaded altered images greatest hits. i didn't know the lead singer from this band was in this movie.
