Now, before anyone says anything about Madonna's acting, I just wanted to know if anyone liked the movie itself? I used to watch it constantly when I was younger. It was always on one of the movie channels. I thought Madonna was actually funny in this. She is not meant for any kind of serious role, other than Evita. The other good thing was that Haviland Morris, Carolyn from Sixteen Candles(Jake's girlfriend) was in this too. It was weird cause she wasn't in much and then she showed up on Sex & The City one season. Good to know she's still around. So in conclusion, who liked this movie? I can't be the only one [Razz] !

I wasn't a huge fan of the movie, I thought it made her look like an idiot, but I liked the soundtrack.

Life got tough after losing Jake Ryan. Wow it's weird to see people now you haven't since since the 80's.

As far as the movie "Who's That Girl", I didn't care much for it. I did like Madonna in "Desperately Seeking Susan" though.

I remember watching Who's that girl a lot too at the time. It was sure better and more fun than Shanghai surprise wasn't it? I didn't really like her acting like a dumb blonde throughput the movie, but I liked some of her outfits and the pet lion was kind of nice. I think my favorite period of Madonna was around this time circa 86-89 when she had the short blond hair.

Hey Valley, I think I might buy Desperately Seeking Susan. The DVD is uber cheap. I always liked that movie too. She looked great during that era!

Riptide, I never even saw Shanghai and that's okay. I loved the True Blue album. I had the vinyl and I used to dance like a little maniac to it in my room. "Where's The Party" and "Open Your Heart" were favorites [Razz] ! I have to say that lately, Madonna has really annoyed me [Roll Eyes] . I'm so sick of the kabalah thing. You know, just sing and dance and let people be happy and make their own decisions in regard to religion.

I was like...who is that in that picture????

It took me a second to figure out that it was Haviland Morris.....I knew she wore a blonde wig for Sixteen Candles...and it really was a bad wig too....especially when they cut it off. It was so wiggy looking. But, I really think that red hair doesn't suit her...that she should have stuck with the blonde, she could have got a way better dye job.

Wow, they really tried to make Haviland Morris look like Home alone mom Catherine O'Hara with the red hair. Home Alone 3 is a movie I haven't seen yet, maybe I will watch it with Dumber and Dumberer.
And Cindy, I totall agree with you on the Kaballah thing. Funny that 80's icons like her and Tom Cruise feel it so necessary to tell us what to believe in. I also really don't like the musical directions she has gone in, and I don't like what she has done with her career. The last stuff I liked was on the Ray of Light album, but she lost me totally when she sang on Britney's Me against the Music. She looked and sounded so tacky, I guess I prefer her when she was more fun didn't take herself so seriously.

Riptide, I couldn't agree with you more. Ray of Light was a good record. The songs were techno-like but had emotion, which was cool. American life was simply horrendous. Couldn't deal with all the religion and politics. Plus her voice just doesn't even sound like her anymore. It's annoying. I think most people feel the same way about Madonna these days. It's all too much of a drag.

Watched Who´s That Girl (1987) yesterday.
Not a very good movie but i have to say that it kept me entertained.

Madonna was like Pee-wee Herman on LSD and Griffin Dunne basically redid the Paul Hackett role from After Hours.
Griffin is a great guy and was clearly the best actor in the flick.

Super silly stuff but i wanted to see funnier supporting roles and better jokes.

I was surprised that James Foley directed this because he´s not known for making comedies.
But i read that he was/is a friend of Madonna and had already directed some of her videos, so...

Thank you, I'm now going to be singing "Who's that Girl?" All night.

Man, this stinks. I don't even own the song.

I looove this movie. Love Madonna's quirky character and the silliness between her and Griffin Dunne. Not a huge fan of the song, "Who's That Girl" but I like "Causing A Commotion" with the opening credits, and how it shows the backstory to the movie.

Cute movie. Like it better than Desperately Seeking Susan, actually.

I think I posted the "Causing a Commotion" song already as being one of many key songs that always makes me think of this movie every time I hear it in the "Songs connected to movies" thread. Overall this movie isn't bad to me. I certainly have seen worse from greater actors at the time.

Hi guys... Long time no hear... I thought the movie had some funny parts to it. Not her best work, but, definitely has the "80s" feel. :-)
