where is this man?

i was reading about the 2010 GHOSTBUSTERS 3 movie and saw that he will not be a part of it. [Frown]

the guy cracks me up, i've only seen him in spaceballs, ghostbusters 1 & 2, little shop of horrors and streets of fire.

has anybody seen him in other movies that might be worth checking out?

I heard somewhere he actually turned down the chance to appear in GB 3 & the upcoming GB video game.

Last time I saw him was probably Honey I Blew Up the Kid

Yeah good question, maybe he turned his back on comedy or something. He was so good in 80's comedies, particularly GB and Strange Brew.

Excellent topic. I have a soft spot for the guy. He was terrific as the over bearing Dad in Parenthood. Also great in Ghostbuster and Honey I Shrunk The Kid is still excellent. Never watched the sequals. I reckon a bring back Rick Moranis campaign starts right here!!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Moranis

according to his Wikipedia article he took time off from acting after his wife died and he found it too difficult to raise his children and act at the same time. Eventually a shoer rime off became a longer time off and he realized he actually didn't miss acting.

I was never a huge fan of Moranis except in Streets of Fire. He is bearable though. The same goes for Steve Martin with me. Most stuff, I can't stand him. He was good in The Spanish Prisoner.

Jdoc....My boss recommended My Blue Heaven to me and said it was hilarious. I thought it was terrible and could barely get through the whole thing. Maybe because it had both Moranis and Martin?

My favorite thing he has ever done ..is being Bob McKenzie. I loved The great White North album. He actually was cute during that time period. I actually watched "Brother Bear" just to hear him and Dave Thomas do the voices of the moose.

I love Streets of Fire.

He'll still do Bob McKenzie with Dave Thomas when they feel up to it these days (Thomas has said they were considering a Strange Brew 2 for a while in the late 90s, but it ended up falling apart for unspecified reasons), but other than that he seems to have moved on to other pastures and seems unwilling to participate in any special features for his past projects (it may be a little understandable about his distance from the SCTV sets, as there was friction between him and the rest of the cast since he came from outside of Second City and because the McKenzies ended up taking over the show--so much friction, in fact, that Joe Flaherty noted in John Candy's biography that he'd threatened the producers that he'd quit after Season 4 if Moranis wasn't let go; as it was, he and Thomas left for Strange Brew anyway, and Flaherty ended up staying to the end). Which is a tad disappointing, since he could deliver in so many ways, from Louis's endearing nerdishness to Helmet's bumbling bombast to Wayne Szelinski's frantic attempts to rectify his errors with his machines and even back to his time in Edmonton creating the likes of Larry Siegel, Skip Bittman (a.k.a. Tzvi Slansky), Gerry Todd, and countless others. Yes, I agree, let's make this a "bring him back" thread.
