I remember that this was re-released to capitalise on the success of Bloodsport.

Terrible film!

Noms Claude Van Damme [Cool]

van damme does a good job of being a bad guy in this. I think he only has one line but proved in this his tremendous physical prescence. It was the first van damme movie i saw. 84-91 saw a massive shift into martial arts actors trying to act.
Micheal Dudikoff, jackie chan, sho Kosugi, steven segal, jeff speakman, marc dacascos, van damme, chuck norris are to name a few. If you havnt seen no retreat no surrender then do watch - perfect cheesey karate movie - just great. and the fight scenes at the end are just awsome.

I viewed the YouTube clip.

It looked interesting.

Why was Jean Claude Van Damme the villain for a change?

he was the villain in no retreat no surrender and black eagle which were his first 2 movies. bloodsport was in there aswell, people argue what his first and second movie was but the truth is, he was making them all around the same time and they overlaped regardless of the release dates. The parts he played were just bit parts really, a bit of a lucky break before bloodsport cemented his place amongst the best new comers with the likes of dudikoff, kosugi and chan. he brought raw power and grace with it which no one else has done..he fitted a niche that had not been fitted yet. trained as a powerful and talented martial artist coupled with yrs of dance training he just looked great in action.
