I had really loved Part 1 (am thinkin' about BUYING it!) and was sort of almost ANTICIPATING Part 2 (I KNEW these people now, and wanted to hear their story!) and so I - like Part 1- got some beer and snugelled in to watch it.
Well- remember how I said I DIDNT need beer to watch BREAKIN'???? Well, BREAKIN' 2.....whole 'nuther story (glug glug!)
About 5 minutes into this flick we have re-visted Kelly, Ozone and Turbo....and we are happy to meet up with them again (or at leat I was - cuz I saw them on Sunday!) and we have a pretty cool Everybody-Is-Dancin'-In-The-Streets (Wouldn't MARTHA AND THE VANDELLAS be proud?) moment - COPS are dancin'! CONSTRUCTION WORKERS are danicn'! LITTLE OLD LADIES are dancin'! Wow- what a fun neighborhood these kids live in!) montage and we are like "Wow - no wonder Kelly hangs out in the projects!!! SO MUCH FUN!!!!"
So soon we have the inevitable (I FELT it coming) moment where THE WHITE MAN butts in and wants to turn the Rec Center into a mall....and we have the Old As Time plot-device....The Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney "Let's Put On A Show!" (also seen in Linda Blair's ROLLER BOOGIE!)
I was like "Wow - THAT old chestnut????" and I watched and power-drank...and the only thing keeping me hanging in there was that cool Bim-Badda song , Lucinda D!ckey's GREAT styles and that HOT Spanish chick (I'm not gay ....but, wow...whatta honey!!!!)
So I wanna point out a few things here......
The dance scene where Turbo dances on the walls and ceiling? Well - you know how they DID that? (You guys are gonna love this:) They used the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET set where Tina got dragged across the ceiling by Freddy ! Wo w- how cool was that?!!!!
So soon we find out - and this is a huge surprise- WHITE PEOPLE ARE EVIL!!!!! - They wanna turn the little dance hut our friends teach kids to bust a move in to a (wait for it) MALL!!!!!!
Dont believe me that whitey is evil? Kelly's parents have A WHITE CAT!!!! And it WONT eat Turbo's LEFTOVERS!!!!!!
So - as Im sighing and power drinking (soon to be an OLYMPIC SPORT) I DO notice something - The Dancing. And I DO wonder WHY this ever went out of style. I know music has changed over the years....but this whole pop-and-locking and (my fave) SPINNING is so cool! There is no way anyone could look at someone spinning like that and say "Wow - so dated"....no, thats COOL...and you are just jealous cuz YOU cant do it (I can barely do Jazz Hands and The Cabbage Patch!)
So - did I mention Ozone has ANOTHER girl that wants him over Kelly? Yeah. Worst. Actress. Ever.
And we soon get to Ozone's Most Embaressing Scene - He GETS HURT. And this causes him to end up in a hospital where a Poor Mans Version of Freekazoid plays and everyone - EVERYONE!- patients, nurses, etc. dances their asses off. (Its PAINFUL to watch)
I was speechless.
And hoping the movie would end soon!
So - and I just wanna take a moment to mention here- (yes, I took notes!_ that OZONE has a zipper that keeps opening wheteher he wants it or not - and he always zips it up before he power-dances......) Kelly's parents walk in on her and OZONE and - what does he do? Yup- he reaches down and zips his zipper. Yup- nothing says "I just got through screwing your daughter" than reachin down and givin it a good zip!!!!
NOW......ICE T shows up! (and believe it or not - my 9 year old daughter is a fan! Never heard a song -just LOVES him on LAW & ORDER!) and he sings a little and this cute lil MICHAEL JACKSON wanna-be dances - and he's so cute (the "breakdancing chicken?" not so much) and soon we have The Big Finale where everyone has NEON on!!!!! It's like NEON WOODSTOCK! (And I wanna take a moment here to say that I miss neon and wish it would come back. I remember when I was 13 my GRANDMOTHER asking me to lend her my NEON clothes!!!! Makes me happy to know if it DOES come back (ISIS, lets work on this one!) that I COULD still wear it at 37.
So...................The End? MMMMMMMMMMM....not as satisfying as Part 1.....which gave me a lump in my throat, believe it or not.
My score- A Desperate 5
I know they filmed this one right after the first one and probably RUSHED....but STILL..... Can Not Hold A Candle To The Original.

This movie is best described by the alliterative term given to the Spinal Tap Album. The cool people will get that. It's bad, and worse, it's soundtrack isn't nearly as good.

Are they implying I would have given it a LOWER score sober or a HIGHER score sober? (Im thinking lower).
Yeah - the soundtrack here was just NOT as good....maybe it would have helped if they had better songs. I remember while watching Part 1 being happy when a song I recognized popped up! There was like only ONE half-way decent song in Part 2!
Oh...I cant believe I forgot to mention this - the two guys have a life-size doll in their house! And it LOOKS pretty much like Kelly! (Doesnt it make you wonder what Ozone uses that for while Kellys away at college????) He uses this doll to teach Turbo how to dance with a girl and they end up breaking it fighting over it. Then THEY DANCE ROMATICALLY TOGETHER! That seen was brilliant!
But alas- one good scene does not a movie make.
Better luck with BREAKIN 3! Hahaha

I still love this one too...not as much as the first....I actually don't like the spanish girlfriend of Turbo's.
It does seem like a music video and not a movie.
The girlfriend fighting for Ozone....she is Susie Coelho- she is on a Gardening show now. (Surprise Gardner and now-Outer Spaces) She is also the 3rd wife of Sonny Bono.
I love the Din Daa Daa song. I also love the end where they do their street dance show
...I love the neon outfits-everyone had on something totally different ...but everything was color coordinated...the same thing with the red and black outfits-I love Kelly's with the beret.
I love the dinner scene...I think the guy who plays Derek is hysterical...he's in the movie "Chopping Mall".
I love Kelly's parents house....I also love her apartment.
The Emergency room is pretty cheesey...but I love the dancing...I love when Kelly does all the back flips and stuff...she was an awesome dancer...I totally love watching the dancing in these movies.
This soundtrack isn't as good, but it does have songs on it I like alot.
