One of the best animated movies I've seen. I'm so jealious at my friend, because he watched it in the theatres. Heavy Metal is a special movie, they can't make such movies today.

there is another 'heavy metal' film around i got a copy free with some magazine awhile ago, if my memory's right it's not to bad ( just buried under a load more dvds that fill my place so i cant give ya any more info soz )

Is it Heavy Metal 2000? It's a good movie, but not as good as the first one. Doesn't seem it's the same people who made it. It's from 1999 and has typical '90's animation. The characters have too sharp corners and I don't like the mix of 2D and 3D. The story isn't as good as in the first Heavy Metal either.

Back in the day Heavy Metal used to be shown pretty regularly at midnight screenings on the weekends, back when they would also show live Concert Movies at the same time in theatres...later the concert movies disappeared and were replaced with films like Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Wall.
Heavy Metal 2000 is just another animated movie, but the original Heavy Metal was a true work of art and styles. The story about the undead airmen in the B-17 segment of Heavy Metal scared me as a kid.

I like the scene when Taarna flies on that yellow bird. It's so well done. The part with Taarna is my favorite. And the stoned aliens are so funny when they drive their spaceship.

That was a great movie to try to spot the voices on. John Candy, Harold Ramis, etc, etc.
Also probably the best soundtrack in the history of moviedom......
