This movie is on one of the movie channels tonight and I was curious if it is worth watching. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It's certainly worth watching, but don't expect the usual Hanks fare. It's actually a pretty good movie with a far more serious tone than you might expect given it has Hanks in and is set in a Comedy club.

Isnt it funny how Sally Field went from being his love interest in PUNCHLINE to being his mom in FORREST GUMP?!

Didn't think he was her love interest - isn't that just what her husband assumed?

I was kinda disappointed in it. I guess it just wasn't my kind of movie.

Just saw "Punchline" (1988) for the very first time - it was on the recently released DVD.

Great film! Very funny & poignant at the same time.

I thought Sally Field's stand-up jokes were hilarious - I found myself laughing out loud at them. I didn't find Tom Hank's jokes nearly as funny - but I guess that was intentional.

The ending was great - very touching, but the same time somewhat realistic.

SPOILERS BELOW:

I.e., I could see why the Sally Fields character didn't want to accept the prize & instead gave it to someone else - given that she had something to fall back on (her family), whereas for others in that business being a comedian was all they had going for them.

I thought this was a great late '80's film, as well as being an examination of stand-up comedies & humor in general.
