I was just watching it....I haven't seen it the whole way through since the 80's. I kind of found it boring in places, but I don't know why, because it has an awesome cast, and visually it looks really good, like the sunset scenes, and the motorcycle scenes...but, it just kind of drags. When the scene came where Goose dies...my mom says...this day is going to be a bad one (when they were going out to fly)...she said this is a "your Goose is cooked" day.

I want to know why Pete Mitchell's nickname is "Maverick", where did that come from, or don't they ever say?

That is his call sign. Pilots in the navy have call signs. Thank goodness because Pete Mitchell just didnt' fit him at all for that film. You are right about some awesome scenery. The sun in some of the scenes was amazing. One of the best love scenes of a film that I can remember also.

Liberace must have been the choreographer for the volleyball game scene.

Emmanuel Lewis and Gary Coleman are about as tall as Tom Cruise.

I believe that in real life Tom Cruise would be unable to be a naval pilot because of his height or to be more exact his lack of height.

This movie made Tom Cruise a Movie Star. We make fun of "Top Gun" now, but it was an Awesome movie back in the day. I'm just glad they didn't have a Navy Recruiter outside the theater doors that night back in 1986.

Sam, Tony Scott sounds a little like Liberace in interviews. Inspirations which gave Scott a clear vision for what he was searching for within characters came from none other than Bruce Weber. It was one of his photographs which actually pictured three men with uncanny resemblance to Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, and Rick Rossovich which Tony Scott used as his guide. Thus the undertones that everyone points out about the volleyball scene....in a sense there is some truth to it.

Still a great 80's movie in my mind!
