I just read about this ultimate Superman movie box set coming out later this year. It will have 14 friggin' discs in it!!!!
The thing I'm fired out about is that it will contained a new version of Superman II. This version will have a new opening sequence and 45 minutes of extra, never seen before, footage.
Apparently when Richard Donner was replaced as director half way through filming, the new director didn't share his vison for the movie and filmed some of his own stuff which gave us the movie we all know this day. But....Donner had filmed a lot of scenes (45 minutes worth) that the new director didn't use. Now...the studio (WB) is allowing Donner to re-edit Superman II to make it more like his original vision. This means out with some old scenes and in with some new scenes which may change the movie to a great degree. I can't wait.
While I'm on the subject of Superman... The movie I am most anticipating this year is Superman Returns! I am so excited because I just read that when it opens in June it will also open in IMAX 3D. Not just IMAX, but figgin' 3D IMAX! I'm ready to start camping out for it now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yea, the "Adventures Of Superboy" tv series from '88 is also coming out this year around the same time as Supes Returns.

I am looking forward to to Superman Returns aswell! The storyline seems to be a little different from the origonal though - with Jorel sending his son to help humans and earth - not sending him because Krypton was being destroyed. I think thats the jist anyway - we'll soon see!

As for the revised Superman II - that sounds awesome! - but I must say, its my fave out of all of them - so I hope its not totally disected [Confused]

Wow Bigfoot that is wonderul news! I think that Superman II is my favorite one of the series. I cannot wait to see what the additional 45 minutes has to offer.

Actually the Jor-El speech in the trailer is exactly the same as the original movie. Plus, SR is not a remake of the original. Superman has left Earth for a few years to find his home and when he returns he finds Lois has a child and Earth doesn't seem to have a place for him anymore. The scenes of his youth are going to be shown in flashback and there are rumours of Marlon Brando's scenes filmed for the original being used at some point in the movie.

Oh thanks for that info noms! You are so right about the speech being the same. I hadn't heard it for so long that when I saw the trailor, it just sounded different to my ears than the origonal (but I did only see a snippet of the trailor - so I can be forgiven, yes?) [Wink]

I also didn't realise that the scenes of his youth were through flashbacks! That makes sense now! I thought 'Superman returns?' he's not returning - its just a re-make! LOL!

<hands head in shame>

So Lois has a kiddy then, eh? hmmmmmm should be interesting! - I wonder what will happen then if he feels he doesn't fit anymore...

<Chick Flick thinking>

Direct from the Superman Returns website:

"Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure Superman Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world's most beloved superheroes. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman's bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.

Directed by Bryan Singer (X2: X-Men United, X-Men, The Usual Suspects), SUPERMAN RETURNS stars newcomer Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth (Beyond the Sea, Blue Crush), James Marsden (X2: X-Men United, The Notebook), Frank Langella (HBO's Unscripted), Academy Award-winner Eva Marie Saint (North By Northwest), Parker Posey (Best in Show), Sam Huntington (Detroit Rock City), Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle) and Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey (Beyond the Sea, American Beauty, The Usual Suspects). "

That's a definite improvement over earlier drafts, which included such ludicrous plot points as:

-Krypton doesn't blow up
-Lex Luthor's an alien
-X-Files-like guys are after him
-Jimmy Olsen's ambiguously homosexual

I didn't know what the guy who played Superman looked like up close....those superhero suits...don't leave much to the imagination.... [Eek!]

I didn't know it's plot line, it would have been cooler if the new one was Lois Lane's son, who would obviously have super powers if the father was Superman, which in part 2....is totally possible....because they did run off to the Jiffy Pop bed....(I always though the big bed in part 2 looked like Jiffy Pop Pocorn)...

Part 2...is absolutely my favorite. I love it. I like the 3 villians in it, the effects are so cool in that movie...they looked so real. I love it because it shows all the best scenes in the begining credits...and I love the helicopter scene in Superman. That was so cool.

Superman Returns is definately one I can't wait to see, when I heard the music for it at the preview...it just sent chills all over my body...because I love that music, I am glad they used it.

I think it would have been cooler...if he was the son of Superman, and they made up new villians, and new characters, instead of remaking the same thing over.
