DivX, Digital Video Express, was the brainchild of Circuit City and a coalition of lawyers that would allow you unlimited viewings of your video disc, for 48 hours. After that it would become pay-per-view, and they would then charge you via a phone line hooked up to your DivX player, $3.25 for the right to watch the disc you've already purchased.

Granted, the discs were cheaper, maybe $5 to $10 each.

Hopefully we DVD enthusiasts will never again run across such a scornfully greedy and arrogant collective of pickpockets.

Devolution here,

There was this dumb guy that I knew that was once going to buy a DivX player back in the day. It was a good thing I didn't though. Oops. I didn't mean to give that away.

They were a pain.

Nawww, you made a wise decision.

Although I believe you could have gotten a $100 refund after they went belly up.

It all worked out for the best. Now we have DVDs that work forever and no big brother tracking our viewing habits on the other end.

Devo, I knew a guy that was faced with that same decision, but the remembrances of BETA flashed in....my...I mean his head and he bought a DVD player instead. Luck him. Though he's bought a HD Progressive Scan DVD Player since then.
