I am looking for the name of an 80's dance movie. The movie involved a group of teens who move from their hometown to New York or some other big city to make it as a dance team. Below I have listed a few of the details I can remember. Sorry I'm a little fuzzy...any help with this is appreciated.

The dance group is composed of boys and girls they move into a cheap apartment with milk crate furniture.

The group performs outside for the public they use zip up sweatshirts in their routine.

The group is confronted by another dance group and told to get off their turf.

The group is challenged by the locals to a dance competition...they go and lose.

The group heads out to the local clubs to learn some new dance moves. (robot etc.)

The group goes back to the club and beats the locals.

The movie also involves a rich socialite who tries to steal away one of the group members boyfriends.

There is a scene where two of the girl group members are attacked by a man walking to their apartment and they spray the attacker with hairspray.

I hope these details help [Smile] Thank You

I think it's Playing for Keeps(1986), also Marisa Tomei's first role, although small.

Marisa Tomei was in the Flamingo Kid in 1984. I don't believe she has any lines but she was definately in the movie.

I like the movie "Playing for Keeps", but I'm thinking the movie that is described above might be:

Fast Forward (1985)

Eight young people from Ohio who are dancers, come to New York, to compete in a major talent competition. But when they get there, they learn that they have to wait some time before they take part in it. So they try to do their best to survive in the Big Apple before competition, and get some lessons about the real world.

Watched Fast Forward and it indeed was the movie in question.
Nice dance film with good soundtrack.

Karen Kopins (Once Bitten) sure is gorgeous once again.
Next i´m gonna watch Jake Speed (1986) cause she´s in that one too.

Jake Speed I liked. Why no DVD is beyond me. Karen Kopins sure was a beauty, with the right agent she could have been another Courtney Cox.
