I watched as well, and unable to chat. Here's my rundown:

* As I explained before, worked until 7PM, then home to get my little guy settled for bed. So....I'm pretty sure he had his "Daddy wants to do something" radar on, cause he struggled with settling. Anyway, was still able to squeeze it in.

* I really liked the focus on fashion during the intro...some nice glimpses of the green high top Converse sneeks, the jean jackets with all the pins, and, I totally forgot about these...the cool viser sunglasses that look like a head band...I remember having a pair, and now strangely, feel like I need a new pair for my 80's collection!

*Forgot about the bit of nudity..thanks Mr Hughs!

* Is it me, or, are all Grandparents portrayed in 80's movies presented as annoying and bothersome, disliked by their Grandchildren. I loved my Gramma and Papa...where's the love!?

* Long Duk Dong....a true 80's hero. Always loved when he talked about Granpa's "hyena"!

* Who would have even bet one dollar back then that the geeky John Cusak would become so famous...not me!

Thanks for getting this rolling Muffy. Sorry I couldn't join you guys for chat...up for 6 AM for my third 12 hour shift in a row....so off to bed. The one bonus...one of the kids at work wants me to wake him up early to watch....BACK TO THE FUTURE!! Bonus double feature! Cheers!

Oh forgot one more thing...didn't notice this before but...I'm pretty sure that Jake Ryan is shorter than ...Ryan Seacrest...just sayin... I know all you girls think he's cute...you could probably just throw him over your shoulder and take him home!

Is anybody watching a tv version of the movie with the alternate cafeteria scenes right before the chin-up scene with Jake in the gym?

Well we had a few people show up and it worked out well! I'm glad kev and atomik got in on it too! I love this movie - it is pretty flawless.

I picked up a few more little things watching it this time.

Mike is still my favorite. His lines and deliveries are excellent.

Did you guys see the weird thing going on when the grandparents are loading into the same car to go to the wedding? Grandma Baker is the last one in the car, but she never actually gets in! She crouches down behind the car as it pulls away. You can still see her bending over there for a sec, haha.

It seems like every line is a classic. It's non-stop laughs.

"Sixteen Candles" is such an incredible flick!

Rather than just say how much fun it was to watch with friends .. how about some little tidbits..

1. I always thought is was cool that 'The Rave-Ups' is written on Samantha Baker's notebook. Molly Ringwald's real life sister had a small bit in the movie (being carried away by a football player at the dance) and was dating one of the band members. The band was also featured in the movie 'Pretty in Pink'.

2. They show a jean jacket in the beginning that had a bunch of cool button pins.. one of them said "Only Visiting This Planet".. do you think Michael Schoeffling is wearing that pin right now?

3. Ever notice the chalkboard in studyhall saying "TOTAL IDIOT" with an arrow pointing at the teacher's head?

4. I never did the "Confidential Notes" in school, but according to Muffy and Kash .. I played something called MASH in grade school. Update: I looked MASH up and that was not it, but Kash described the game I played perfectly. Maybe he can again tomorrow.

5. There are two posters in Samantha's room that I noticed.. one was definitely The Culture Club and Cindy believes the one directly above her bed is The Stray Cats. But Mike's room was where it's at: Heather Thomas on the back of the door, Styx on one side of the bed and Sammy Hagar right in the center.

6. Is it bad that when I finally met Joan Cusack .. my opening line was .. "Hey, Water Fountain Girl!"?

7. Oh Muffy pointed out that when Long Duk Dong is sitting at the dinner table .. he is trying to use his forks like chopsticks. Classic!

8. Has anyone ever noticed the DJ at the dance besides Secret Admirer? Also, Cindy and I are still on the lookout for that 'Our House Filene' dance mix..

9. I think it is hilarious to see the size of the high tech cordless and car phones from the 80's.

10. The drive-in food tray still attached to the car is a nice touch.

11. Devo mentioned something about grandparents and then disappeared like Michael Schoeffling.

12. Cindy Mancini can recite the exact quotes as you watch a movie without watching it herself. Kind of amazing actually.

13. Both Secret Admirer and I enjoy the geeks in a trunk scene... wow that's sad just typing it .. so I can imagine reading it too. And no.. he's not retarded.

14. Oh and I also have a few similar photos in a Rolls Royce with the prom queen from high school.

15. Jim "that's why they call them crushes" Baker was a great Dad..

16. After the scene when Mike says "Classic".. notice how he slams into the door and then plays it off.

17. I had a Poltergeist moment, but Muffy and Cindy wanted to watch Teen Witch for some reason.

18. Remind me that the next time I listen to Billy Idol to avoid the birth control pills.

19. Headgear or Jake Ryan in a Porsche? Really?

20. The ending is just so awesome!!

kev, the shower scene was such a shock [Wink]
Didn´t remember it at all.

Nice list of tidbits Valley, i even noticed most of them myself.

SA, Mike is perfect. I wish that there would have been a tv-show for this guy.

The grandparents were great!
And all those geeks on the bus, i love these scenes!
Just like in Ferris, some truly awesome characters.

I´m definately not going to wait another 5 years to see this fantastic movie again.

so Valley it's called a fortune teller!! it was on the tip of my tongue earlier...

http://www.mathematische-basteleien.de/fortune_teller.htm

I really had never noticed Dong using his silverware as chopsticks before lol I always get so wrapped up in repeating the dialog in that scene...ha!

It was fun,all of us typing quotes or favorite parts and also pointing out visual things I probaly never noticed.I love the dj at the dance because I never noticed how much he bounces and how colorful he was til I saw 16 on the big screen a few years ago....and apparently I point that out alot [Roll Eyes]

It's so awesome Atomik and Kevin watched it with us in spirit! Did Paul and Pyro end up watching it too?

Mike is still my fav fav fav because his lines and his eyebrows lol still make me laugh loud.......Valley pointing out him running into the door "classic"!

and gotta point out it was eerie almost goosebumpy that Cindy Mancini could quote and call the next scene just from our discussions without the movie on at her house....I really do believe she is that wonderful!

Devolution here,

I can totally hang line for line with Cindy without the movie. What I was saying about Grandpa Baker is that he in real life is Bill Murray's dad. Sorry about cutting it short. Peoples are tired at night.

Great tid bits guys

* SA...I had to go back and look at Grandma Baker and the car scene...very odd...especially considering that in the next shot, she's in the car. Wonder why they would have let that go...surely someone would have picked up on this.

* Loved Anthony Michael Hall's portrayal of Billy Idol's "Dancing With Myself"...I'm sure that dude musta been on ritalin as a kid....quite hyper active....

* Nice pic of Molly in the yearbook Jake was looking at...great hair!

* Tracy...the girl who's with Jamie Gertz and cuts Caroline's hair...she looks very familiar...anybody know where I might have seen her? * Fugly fur coat by the way!

* Didn't realize that Mike was actually the young boy in Kramer VS Kramer...cute kid back in the day.

* The last scene kiss...anyone ever notice or bother to count that there are clearly 17 candles on the cake....

I remember seeing that for the first time and thinking "What the...?!"

Molly never looked lovelier than in this movie. I had no idea watching this back in the day, that the guy who wrote / directed it would go on to define the next five years (and a generation). I would say we didn't know how lucky we were... but I think maybe we did [Wink]

Next One is up!

There was a move to do Can't Buy me Love, but I think that mixing the genres up would be a good idea, so I'm putting that one off for a little while.

This week, your Rewind Movie night is:

TERMINATOR

Rules are the same - Watch it by Friday, then the thread will be unlocked. Try not to chat about the movie ahead of time, so it's all fresh....
