Recently re-watched the excellent 1986 UK drama "Mona Lisa" on Blu-ray, starring the late Bob Hoskins. Hoskins portrays a criminal who has just gotten out of prison & is trying to get his life together. He gets a job as a driver for a high-class call girl, and ends up falling in love with her. Michael Caine & Cathy Tyson also stars.

Very well-done film, with amazing acting & a solid - but ultimately sad - story. Also, this is an interesting time capsule of the somewhat seedy "night life" in mid-80's UK.

Excellent soundtrack as well, with a good instrumental score, the song "Mona Lisa" by Nat King Cole, and the superb "In to Deep" by the pop/rock group "Genesis" is also featured in a key scene. Genesis is one of my favorite '80's bands, so it was great to hear that song in the film.

It's a great movie, and Hoskins is fantastic. Unfortunately, that was the year the Academy decided to finally give an Oscar to Paul Newman. Hoskins was better. In a rare villain performance, Michael Caine is terrific. He's like a scary businessman. And, of course, you can't forget the beautiful "In Too Deep" on the soundtrack.
