I watched it last night from beginning to end, and it is such a great teen movie. It has everything I miss about the movies, the teenage girls and guys all dressed so nice, and they were covered up-but looked really good. Even Kelly Lebrock, she looked very sexy, but if you look at what she was wearing, she was pretty covered up..her butt crack wasn't hanging out..that was for sure. I never noticed that it took place in Shermer, IL....isn't that the same town as the Breakfast Club?? Did John Hughes grown up there, was it a real town??? When I saw that movie...I thought about that's how me and my friends all were ,hanging out at the mall on the weekends. Going to Orange Julius! That was fun. When I see teenagers now, I fear them, their vocabulary is so awful, I know that the f-word is going be thrown around like it was nothing, and when I was in school..I didn't know but 1 girl who ever said that word ever...and she was total trash, that is what we classified people as, that spoke like that, and now, there isn't anybody that doesn't throw that in to a sentence somewhere. I saw a piece of that show Punk'd with Ashton Kutcher, does anyone like him, he's the big teen dude now...and I can't stand him. He isn't funny. He puts on this act like his stoned, or not playing with a full deck, and he talks like he is a half wit or something, and it is so phoney...it doesn't come across as humor to me, just stupidity, and that's what I see when I see all these new younger actors trying to do stuff that has already been done, that can't pull it off, it has no originality, and they just look dumb. Like Anthony Michael Hall in Weird Science, when he was drunk -that was so funny, I was laughing my head off, and I have seen that movie so many times-people I guess just don't have the realisim anymore to make a movie work.

Most of John Hughes' movies took place (and was filmed) in and around the Chicago, IL area, particularly Northbrook, IL. The high school that he went to was situated on a Shermer Road in Northbrook. But Shermer is a fictional town!

Apparently, Demi Moore does!

Oh...I forgot..I wanted to see if anyone else loved the soundtrack to Weird Science???

I love the song Tenderness at the end-by General Public,

and I love the title song-Weird Science-by Oingo Boingo...is that right, or did I get them reversed.

Yeah...I know Demi Moore likes Ashton...but that still isn't saying too much for him.

Have you ever seen the movie "Dogma"? It may not be for everyone's tastes but there is a hilarious scene in it about Shermer Il and how all of John Huges movies take place there...Your post reminded me of it [Smile]

I have never seen Dogma, some one told me about it, and it seemed very bizarre.

Did Sixteen Candles take place there too?? Do they mention it in the movie somewhere??

I have a link to a John Hughes site that explains that Shermer, Il was the name of Northbrook earlier on. There are also some pics of the locations for those movies....Quite cool...

Weird Science is a great movie! John Hughes is brilliant!

Ashton Kutcher is annoying, snd I doubt he and his craddle robbing girlfriend will last.

Just a side note: I don't think it's wrong to date someone younger than you, but this whole "dashton" thing is making me sick to my stomache. I'm tired of reading and hearing about them.

They irritate me almost as much as "Bennifer". [Roll Eyes]

It is. I got a feeling that you probably would hate it. It was filmed in Los Angeles, New Jersey, and around the Pittsburgh, PA area.

Writer-director Kevin Smith is a big fan of 80's movies, especially Steven Spielberg, John Hughes, and the "Star Wars" series. But his own movies don't seem like an 80's production, and they are...well, let's just say they are an acquired taste: you either love them or you truly detest them. [Roll Eyes]

I first saw "Weird Science" back in the 80s at the theater and I couldn't stop laughing. I was so surprised, because the previews were not very good and I actually only went because of my friends.

I actually hit a point where I couldn't stop laughing. It seemed like EVERYTHING Chet said was a riot! [Big Grin] Well, I've seen "Weird Science" several times since then and I still enjoy it, but the first time will always be memorable.

One other tidbit of trivia (or possible folklore): Hughes said he wrote the script in two days. Not hard to believe, with a premise that like that the film basically writes itself.

Devolution here,

Weird Science, what a great movie.
Dogma, a great movie in itself, but some people had religious objections to the movie.

Shermer was the town in Sixteen Candles, I believe it says it on the school in the beginning.

I loved Weird Science too. What did you guys think about the Tv series Weird Science? Funny that the guy who plays Chet in the series was the Blonde guy in Waynes World in the car when they headbang to Queen.

Granted for the most part I agree with your statement, but people our age said the same thing about us when we were teenagers. It's just a natural evolution of the food chain.

I had to pass on the tv series...didn't work like the movie. Take Pretty in Pink or Better off Dead and make a sitcom out of it... (?!?) It would not work...

I don't think it's just the music and movies of some of todays' teens that are bad. I think it's their whole out look on everything, and I think alot of them are so self centered, and they think they got everything coming to them, they don't do anything to deserve it. I know some girls who are 15 now, and to get them off their butts, you'd need a stick of dynamite, they whine around, and complain about everything, and everything they put down, and they are moody, and the parents don't care, they talk to their mom like she's dirt. When I see groups of them, like even at Halloween...they are cursing up a storm. I saw another group of kids at the mall doing the same thing, and smoking, and they look like some of them were maybe 10 years old. It gets old. They need a good dose of real reality, and they also seem so uncompassionate too..and completely clueless. Now I am not talking every teenager, I am speaking majority-as usual, because my neighbors kids are great kids, they do chores around their house, they work part time, they are well behaved, they are polite, so it isn't every kid, but they see it in high school, and some of the stories they have told me, it is nothing to like when I was in high school.

There was a series? Where was I? That seems awful.

And blonde guy in the car in Waynes World...do you mean the one who plays Terry? Not Dana Carvey (Garth) but the guy in the back seat...he played Chet? That's odd.

Not to start a debate of any kind, but I love Dogma...in fact, I love all of the Kevin Smith films and Dogma is my fave of them all. It is highly offensive to people who are devout Catholics, though, or who have issues with religious humour.

The ironic thing here is that it is a Disney film (Miramax) and they got major hate mail and death threats when the movie first came out. Imagine that...Mickey Mouse getting death threats.

I agree...I don't think Isis would enjoy it at all.

Missie

P.S. Dogma is on Comedy Central right now. Weird.

Speaking as a 15 year old girl i agree that not all teenagers today are perfect little angels like im sure they were in your generation. I was so offended when i read these posts that say we're all lazy clueless chain smokers that dont respect our parents and have no taste in movies or music. What do you know a handful of teens like this? I would rather be a teenager like you described than a prejudgus old woman like yourself.
