Hello all...I hope someone can help me come up with a movie title. It was a movie I saw in the early 80s, and all I remember is that they were on a space ship. There were people, and these little square robots that went around and watered the plants. They may have done other maintenance, but I can't remember. At the end, I cried and cried because the last robot got left alone to tend the plants. I am not sure where everyone else went. I know this is kind of a vague description, but for years the memory of this movie has haunted me and I am curious to see it again now that I am not 5. Thanks for your help!

The film you're thinking of is "Silent Running", http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067756/ a classic 70's sci-fi film.

The Wizard is right. It's indeed "Silent Running" (1972), starring Bruce Dern. It was one of the earliest examples of an ecological, environmental and social consciousness message for a sci-fi film. [Smile]

The robots were named Huey, Dewey, and Louie.

It was directed by Douglas Trumbull, who worked on the special effects in Stanley Kubrick's classic movie "2001: A Space Odyssey". He also worked on "Close Encounters of the Third Kind", "Blade Runner", and the first "Star Trek" movie (1979).

Too much sci-fi movies have nothing but action and special effects. But this movie is more about IDEAS, than SFX. That's what makes this film so special to those who see it. When was the last time that you actually CRIED after seeing a sci-fi flick? [Cool]

The only thing that I didn't like about that movie was the two corny, preacy songs by Joan Baez. [Mad]
