Today's film has been inspired by Entertainment Weekly's story on the top 50 tearjerkers. My choice is the number one pick: Terms of Endearment. This film stars two brilliantly casted actresses Shirley MacClaine and Debra Winger. They star as a mother and daugther who have a very volatile relationship. The story follows their relationship from the birth of Emma (Debra Winger) to her death from cancer. Aurora (Shirley MacClaine)is a very uptight rich southern woman. She has to totally be involved in every aspect of her wild child's life. Along the way there is a great supporting cast with Jeff Daniels and Jack Nicholson.
This film won a slew of Oscars including Best Actress and Best Picture. Auroroa's defining moment was at the hospital when she was trying to get the nurses to give her daughter the shot. Totally awesome flick!

My mother and grandmother went to see this together. They loved it. I saw it when I was older and loved it too. It's kinda of a mother daughter flick, like Steel Magnolias.
I usually try not to see too many tear jerkers cuz I like to laugh, but Terms is a classic.

I know what you mean. I saw more sad movies in the 80s and 90s, so I am a lot smarter to avoid them today. It is definitely a classic.

Hey..this is one I actually saw, a bunch of times. I loved it, as a movie. But, I can not watch it now, especially the part where she is dying and is saying good bye to her children. That is my biggest fear in life, getting a terminal disease, while my son is still too little to remember me, or for me to not be there for him while he grows up. But it is great in the other parts of it, between her and Jack Nicholson-that is a great movie.

I have to agree with RPFL on this one. Maybe when I am way older I might consider watching it with On Golden Pond. But there's too many obscure, wacky movies that I am after.
