I was just wondering what most of you do for a living. I work full time in a Dr.'s office, but I have access to the internet(for now). During my breaks I love to get on and read the posts. My job isn't all that exciting but it pays well. What does everyone else do?

Oh by the way, I'm also in school full time working on my teaching degree. I have a degree in communications but I'd like to do something different. [Smile]

I'm the PR person for a small not-for-profit agency in upstate NY Capital District -- quarterly newsletter, annual report, meetings & trade shows, various other communications. It's a fairly congenial place to work with enough creativity, occasional business travel, and a do-gooder mission, which also gives me flexibility for my kids, my personal life, and my gym life.

I am an antique dealer, and I am opening a Bed N Breakfast-which will be called The Briar Rose-after the name of the girl in Sleeping Beauty, and it will have a garden theme, well it does, we are almost completed with it.

I went to school to be a travel agent, and I also was a veternarian's assistant, and worked for a marketing company.

Part of Ali_with_an_i's response to Isis:

I know of some people who ran B&B places in the past. They all say that it isn't as easy or peaceful as it seems.

It is definitely not like the Vermont inn that Bob Newhart ran on the 80's TV show, "Newhart"!

Instead, it seems to be more like the British TV show, "Fawlty Towers", which starred John Cleese.

Anyway, good luck to Isis on her new business!

I have debated the whole idea of the Bed N Breakfast thing, the pros and cons. I have books on it, and I have stayed in them. They are a ton of work. But, every thing about them, I do for free now. I have people spending the night here about every weekend, I cook them breakfast. We have a hot tub, we will let guests use. I have a huge movie collection, I am going to have microwavable popcorn in a little basket with my movie list, and I have 2 fridges, one is stocked with every non alcoholic drink there is, and people can have free drinks and popcorn and a movie. I have every thing a resort does, my jukebox, arcade games,a bar, every board game imaginable, a dart board, we are putting a work out room in the basement. We have a huge wrap around front porch, that you can sit in a rocking chair and watched the Amish buggies go by in our little town. I don't want just anyone staying here, trashing my house, because I have put so much work in to it, so it won't be cheap. But, we live in a very touristy area. And, I like people, I can easily talk to anybody, and alot of people that are going to stay here, some will be antique dealers I know, from where I used to live, because there is a big flea market/ farmer's market 1/4 mile from me, and I have had about 20 couples already ask me when will we be open. I keep pushing the date back. I will only be open on weekends, and Tuesday nights, until my son is older and I don't need the money,my husband has a good job, so if I want to not take guests, and want to go away for the weekend, I won't book people here. I hope I get alot of older people..I worry about people doing "you know what" in my house and me hearing it...ick...but I think people will respect that we have a child, and our bedroom is seperated from the rest of the bedrooms. So, that is a cool thing. It is something to give me something to do, cause I get bored, and it has alot more pluses for me than negatives. I think everything is what you make it.

I attend junior college and paint murals and do faux finishes for people's homes. It's a ton of physical labor, but it's fun work.

I do a little bit of everything. Most story writing, collecting stuff from TV and movies. Collecting different books all the time. In the past year been making websites.

A couple of my fan sites have been shut down, just closed a couple of personal sites that I don't have time for. Almost two weeks ago I made a Jonathan Brandis Memorial Site, and just today building a new fan site for FX's The Shield.

By the way I often do private investagation work so I guess I live a busy life

Private investigation? I think that's one of the most fascinating jobs out there. Have you had any particularly interesting cases? Or mostly stalker type a la Something About Mary.. [Big Grin] by the way, I'm a college student and work part-time only to support my dvd collection and love of movies [Smile]

When someone at work is being incredibly obtuse, my reply is "Hello...hello...is anyone in there...think Mc[insert last name]!" After 20 years in the business world, you need coping strategies to get through the insanity. "You Irish bug."

Wow, we have a diverse crowd here. It seems that we all pretty much do something different.

I wish sometimes that I could be in school again. It's rough being out there on your own. Jobs are tight these days, so it's hard doing something that you love and making a living off it.

I was a reporter once, but they really don't make too much money and the hours were so long. The job kept me away from my family and I just couldn't hnadle that.

Maybe once I finish school (again) and get another degree, I'll be able to balance my life out a bit better.

Until you reach the 20th anniversary of your college graduation, you'll never understand the true pain of nostalgia. Those were some pretty sweet days (pre-work), but you never now how good something is until you don't have it anymore.

While we're on the subject of employment, I work with people who have graduated college, yet say "pitcher" for picture, "granite" for granted, "seen" when they mean have seen. I'll admit to being overly senstive about these things...irregardless since I had went to college & learned this stuff real good, I figured everyone else done it too. Anyways, I guess it's a mute point.
