You guys seem to know a lot about retro movies and I've been looking for the title\details of a movie I haven't seen since I was a kid. Its KILLING me, I tell ya!!

Can anyone help me?

The storyline is based (iirc) on a summer in a small town with a small group of kids (4 or 5, age 10-15, maybe 2 boys & 2 girls) talking about this legend\myth of a dragon type thing in the town lake. At the end of the movie, this dragon-thing, which looks like a bunch of used tractor parts welded together, comes out of the lake. One of the boys seems really smart, to the point that he modifies his bike to ride on railroad tracks...I remember him walking his bike away from a group of kids to do this near the beginning of the movie. One of the girls really likes him but he's dispondant about that so there's an element of youthfull crush there.

Here are some of the things I'm not so sure of. I'll put the year on this gem at around 1984-86. The tractor dragon might be yellow, he might be riding his bike on the tracks to get home and some of these kids might be in town on summer vacation.

I know I've not been here before but I'd like to get this outta ma heed!
Thanks for your help.

There was a really long thread a few months ago on a DVD newsgroup I read, someone asked almost exactly the same "What's this film?" question and almost everyone remembered it (including me) and luckily someone found out the name.

It appears to be "The Quest" (1986), http://us.imdb.com/Title?0091810
It's out of print now on VHS, called "The Quest" in America and "The Go-Kids - Frog Dreaming" in the UK, if you want a copy try eBay.

I can confirm it is The Quest. It was filmed in Australia and features Henry Thomas (E.T.)...still one of my favorites.

I placed an impulse bid on the UK VHS last night & won, kind of looking forward to watching it again as my memory of it is very vague.

Well I got the video (watching it again now) and was really great to see again, Henry Thomas is like a young mad scientist with his inventions [Smile]
Didn't realise it starred a young Tamsin West, aka Linda Twist from Round The Twist (I see it's on DVD but only series 3 & 4, the best series were 1 & 2)

The video cover looks like it's some sort of Indiana Jones film [Big Grin] (no I didn't pay £59.95 for it, that's the price rental shops pay)

Good on ya, Wizard. I'm still looking for a copy to rent here in my fair Western Canadian city with no luck.
Hope you enjoy it. I remember loving it regardless of the reviews.

Thanks again all.

Whoa! I remember being freaked out by that Tractor monster. I would never have recalled the movies name though. Way to go.
