I understand there have been three different releases of the Karate Kid movie boxsets in 2001, 2005 and 2007. I bought the 2007 one and was disappointed it was in a card (rather than plastic) box and only had games, trailers and one featurette. This is despite the back of the box says the third disc is supposed to have a retrospective, outtakes and deleted scenes. Isn't there supposed to be easter eggs and commentaries in one of the boxsets?

The Easter eggs, commentary for the first film, the making of doco and a few other little featurettes are in the 2005 set.

And you could just get the single special edition of The Karate Kid for those same features http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/677732/The-Karate-Kid-Special-Edition/Product.html

Yep, that is the best edition. If you're looking for a boxset, you need to get the one with all four movies to get the original Special Editon with extras, as the three-disc set is an older edition.

The Special Features on the special edition are a delight. The commentary is one of the best I've ever heard and will entertain any fan of The Karate Kid for hours.

I've just noticed a steelbook edition for the first 3 films on play, due out next month.

Hmm, you know I might go for this. I NEVER double dip unless it's for special features. I doubt there'll be anything new here, but; the set I have at present - the box is all but destroyed and the original disc has been played probably over 100's of times since '05. I need the original in mint condish again and a steelbook sounds extra special for my favourite movie of all time... an added bonus is that you don't have to have that "other" movie in the collection, just the original trilogy.

UPDATE: Here's a look at the art work: http://www.zavvi.co.uk/imagepopup.jsf?code=878022&front=true&pop=true

The original looks to be a new disc, I doubt anything new's on it, but I hope it at least has the original special features for this upgrade!

My steelbook arrived today, it's beautiful [Cool] Unfortunately tho, the first disc doesn't have the special features, just has trailers for 1 and 2 and filmographies.

Ah, I came to see if you got your set. Sounds cool. Tis a shame about the special features. My '05 set is in really bad condition now so I was hoping that this would be good upgrade... looks like the old one will still be getting the most plays because of the special features. [Cool]

Thanks for letting us know. [Smile]
