I don't know how legit this place is, and their prices are out of this world but ...

Reel Clothes

Ralph Macchio: "Daniel's Head Scarf" $950
BG: Assorted Gi Belts $25
BG: "Red All Valley Ref's T-Shirt (M)" $210
BG: "Red All Valley Ref's T-Shirt (S)" $210
BG: "Black Man's All Valley Official's T-Shirt" $215
BG: "Black Female Official's T-Shirt (S)" $215

Honestly, that doesn't look like THE head scarf to me. Smaller dots than appear in the movie frame. And those shirts seem a little small ... but they were tight in the movie.

And what about a certificate of authenticity? For $950, I should get one! Ditto a $210 t-shirt.

I would have thought the head scarf was real seen as though they have the other stuff plus they had the Cobra Kai Gi's too which I know are real. They will come with a certificate of authenticity.

I'd be careful with the head scarf. In the dvd commentary, Ralph Macchio says that he has the original scarf, along with the trophy from the tournament.

There is also another prop dealer that has a head scarf and says its from KK II and its like $2500. If Ralph says he owns it then it probably isn't real but also sometimes they do have more than one piece of clothing that's the same so who know's. Personally I wouldn't buy it just because of the price I would just get one of the replica head scarfs if I wanted one. Those Cobra Kai Gi's they had are the real deal though, I have one and although you could make one simelar you would never get one exact.

That Head Scarf is FAKE!! Look at the middle part, the design doesn't match the movie! IN the movie the "disign pattern lines in the middle.. is THICKER!

OK Everyone....I have been away for a LOOONG time, but I've gotten online again recently and saw this interesting thread, so here I am...Anyhoo, here's MY 2 cents....IMHO, it is very possible that the "headscarf" @ the Reel Clothes site is real....just NOT used in the first Karate Kid. If you compare the Reel Clothes pic of the scarf they have for sale, with the movie pics from KK2 on on the Screen Used link provided by "Steve", they look basically identical. The one Reel Clothes is selling as "authentic" is just like the KK2 scarf, i.e. smaller dots, thinner lines in the middle of the flower etc. It seems that Reel Clothes may simply have accidentally posted it as a "KK1 item". My theory is this....The headscarf from KK1 is either an actual piece of clothing bought somewhere for use in the film, or it is a prototype that was fabricated by the prop dept. This being the one that Ralph Macchio owns, as he states on the KK1 commentary. However, by the time KK2 rolled around, the prop people probably made a couple of "new" headscarfs that were based on, or patterned after the one from the first movie. They probably had a little bigger budget due to the success of the first one, and were able to spend more on wardrobe. However, whatever the case is...$950 or whatever Reel Clothes wants is too much, and certainly $2500 is insane. Maybe we'll never know?

I aggree with you Claude I do think that they would have been more than one of these head scarfs for the movies and like I said earlier with reelclothes having the other stuff they have had I wouldn't have thought this was a fake I don't even think they would bother in deliberatly try selling a fake. But also I agree the price is way too high for it anyway.

I think my theory may have a snag....the pic on reel clothes' website is like the kk2 headband except for the fact the the dots stop well before the ends of the headband unlike the ones seen in kk and kk2. The reel clothes pic shows a dot pattern similar to the century martial arts replica. I'm not saying it's fake, but could it have been used maybe in kk3? Because it's certainly not from either of the first 3 kk films.

Haven't u ever noticed..

When Daniel first begins his training.. he's washing the cars right? Well, when him and Miyagi make "the pact", Miyagi ties the headband for him. There are no tassles once he's tied it.. its like it barely even fits. Later on in that movie and the sequels, Daniel clearly has tassles hanging from the knot.. almost like its a longer headband.

Heh, just an observation. It makes senses that there'd be more than one

Yeah, you're right Ian, I did notice that....never put 2 and 2 together though....it's just weird how there are soo many discrepancies between the various headbands, and soo many ways to be anal about details, but the situation almost demands it..lol....i believe the one Miyagi ties on to be the one Morita refers to as having been his hankerchief.

^^I noticed the pattern changes depending who's wearing it. I assumed that was because it was folded a different way across the central pattern

agreed..quite right...plus in the "afta afta" scene, Miyagi has it tied once so the "tassles" are longer, and when he puts it on Daniel in the "Must make sacred pact" scene, he ties it twice, so they are super short...just an "observo"

I'd wear the headband to my office if I had it.. (the real one). In fact, I doubt I'd ever take it off.

i bought one of these on ebay a few years ago to go as the karate kid for halloween. i still have it. it cost me about $9. though, you can tell instantly that it's a fake as the colors aren't as dark and the cloth material isn't as quality as the original. i don't think it would take much effort to draw out the pattern and take it to a screen printer to have one made, but for a one shot print, it won't be cheap.

Well buying merchandise off those sites is always risky. It's kinda like buying an autographed picture, unless you were actually there when the person signed it, there is no way to know for sure it is authenic. However, it would be way cool to own something that is dear to your heart, so as long as you believe it's real then that might be good enough.
