1st and 2nd season are good but goes very wrong after that.
The first two parts of season one i think are called In the Shadow of the Hawke part 1 and 2,this was originally released as a stand alone film you could buy or rent, but when i watched it on the season dvd it was edited slightly to meet certificate guidelines.
A lot of people always compare Airwolf to Knightrider but i loved Airwolf as a kid and it still looks pretty good now.
Shame the bloke who plays Stringfellow Hawke turned into an alcoholic and that is why many think he got replaced for season 3 by Barry Van Dyke.
After the Pilot episode my favorite was from season 2 and was called Moffets Ghost, also the episode with another attack chopper called HX-1 was good.

I pretty much only remember the theme song and the helicopter from my childhood. This is one show I mean to buy and watch, but never seem to get around to it. Helluva theme song though!

Actually, wasn't there another helicopter-themed TV show that came out at the same time as Airwolf? I believe it was the TV version of the theatrical movie, "Blue Thunder", which featured a pre-SNL Dana Carvey?

Yes there was Blue Thunder tv series that lasted only 11 episodes.
Pretty cool cast: James Farentino, Dana Carvey, Bubba Smith and D1ck Butkus.

Here´s some info from Wikipedia:

The show was canceled by ABC after they felt the similar Airwolf on CBS would win the ratings battle.
Also, the series aired at the same time as the CBS series Dallas on Friday nights, and lost.
A Region 1 DVD set of the series was released on 22 August 2006.

I liked the first two seasons with Jan Michael Vincent. But his alcoholism was so bad, that the studio had to get rid of him. He couldn't remember his lines, showed up late or not at all, etc. After the first two seasons, when Barry Van Dyke et. al. replaced the original cast, the show went way down hill. We watch it on the weekends on RTV, but only if the episode is with the original cast. The acting is so bad with the Barry Van Dyke cast and the whole show just turned into some bad cheese.

Cool show, back in 1985 no one could chose between Airwolf, KITT or Street Hawk! Airwolf was a clichéd programme on reflection. But when the music started up and Airwolf hovered into view, for the time, it didn't get much better than that.

I remember having the two hour pilot episode on beta-max. Easily became one of my favorites. Up there with Knight Rider, Street Hawk, Highwayman, Sledge Hammer, A-Team, Fall Guy, Greatest American Hero, Manimal, Automan, Sidekicks, The Equalizer, Wonder Years, Hard Castle & McCormick, Simon and Simon, Magnum P.I.

I loved this show. I own season one, a shame about Jan Michael Vincent's drinking. I loved Streethawk too.

Check out this piece on Jan-Michael Vincent which recently aired on Australian television.

The Rise And Fall Of Jan-Michael Vincent : www.youtube.com/watch?v=QRu6N12ogZY

Probably the most recent footage of Vincent available, i was shocked to find out his lower right leg
has been amputated. Still, i do think he has the perfect look nowadays to star in a gritty western.

It sounds like his life after a certain point was a perfect storm of disaster. There's no doubt though, that his drinking is what preceded his downfall. If he'd managed to get sober he would have looked better and been able to keep working. I watched him in a movie from the early 90's called... Alienator? In which he was clearly drunk in several scenes.

Although the show is familiar and something I watched, it wasn't a fixture of my television back in the mid 1980's. El Ray now has it in their schedule and I was able to see the program from its beginning. The network also has Knight Rider and that too afforded me the ability to see how it all began.
