When thinking about my favorite 80's shows, I was surprised at the number of shows I loved that actually started in the 70's...shows I automatically used to claim as purely 80's, but alas, now, have to share them with the previous decade. Wondering about everyone's favorite shows that actually began in the 70's, but you contiued to love them into the 80's. Some of my favorites were: Different Strokes, Buck Rogers, Three's Company, CHIPS, and Charlie's Angels. I was born in 73' so this is not surprising...

Some good ones you guys. Of the ones you mentioned I really dig Taxi, 3's Co., Diff Strokes, HDays, L & S, CHux angels & CHIPS.
I would like to add Duke of Hazzard and the Love Boat. Love Boat has been on quite a bit lately and I like seeing all the guests that made appearances on it. Today, Stan Gable, Charlene Tilton and Erika Eleniak were in the same episode

I've caught a few episodes of Love Boat. Some are really corny, but others aren't so bad. The last one I watched/listened to while cleaning had Marie Osmond, Merideth Baxter Birney and David Birney as guests. It was pretty hokey.

It's funny how the 70s and 80s had these anthology-type shows where you could cast lots of starting-out TV actors as well as washed-up, but recognizable, has-beens into a hokey, yet "safe" show (perfect for cleaning the house by, PG LOL) such as Love American Style, Love Boat, Hotel, and Fantasy Island. It's like a completely American format--a bunch of folks whom people will recognize on a boat, on an island, etc. with a little romance, a little drama, and a little comedy within the confines of a thin, skeletal structure. And make each show so cookie-cutter generic and formulaic that even if you tune in halfway through, you can follow each plot line in five minutes without paying much attention. Amazing!

I remember Alice, quite a solid little 70s-80s sitcom. It was based on the underrated Martin Scorsese film Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. Ellen Burstyn won the Best Actress Oscar. And the great character actor Vic Tayback was in both the movie and the series as Mel of Mel's Diner.
