Last year I became obsessed with tracking down Halloween and Christmas episodes from my favorite TV shows from the 70's and 80's. I always looked forward to seeing the holiday episodes...wondering if anyone has some favorites. Also looking to track down ones I may have missed or forgotten, so any feedback or suggestions would be appreciated....

On the dramatic side, both of The Great American Hero's Halloween episodes are still rather creepy viewed today, and for anyone looking for a scare, would be recommended.

For a lighter holiday piece, Alf's is a good one, where he pretends he's a human in costume (vandalizing Willie's wardrobe for the necessary zipper) and thus gets to socialize with impunity for one night (the tag where he then goes trick or treating for cats is priceless).

I know it's not an 80's show but the Home Improvement Halloween and Christmas shows were always good.

The first would be where the spirit of a vengeful real estate agent possesses Bill, and Ralph has to go into the Dark Dimension and face the Beast in the Black to set it all right.

The second is where they take on the derranged magician bent on eliminating all his rivals.

From the 80's .. I remember that the tv show "Roseanne" had a good Halloween episode and MacGyver had at least two that were Halloween themed.

But if we are talking fav all-time, it would have to be:

Buffy the Vampire Slayer!

I want to begin by saying that the movie was only marginally good, but the tv series was just incredible in my opinion. If you haven't watched in order starting with season 1 .. you are missing an awesome adventure.

Okay back to the Halloween question.. Buffy had two that I watch every Halloween season.

The first one was from season two and was just simply titled "Halloween" . The premise is that a curse turns everyone into the costumes they are wearing.

The second and probably my fav was from season 4 and it was called "Fear Itself". Basically the Buffy gang goes to a frat party and have to face their biggest fears.

Both were brilliant Halloween episodes!

Valley I didn't know you loved Buffy!!! I don't think I knew? [Smile]

I love it so much....it really is an "awesome adventure"........I get teased alot for liking it but I don't care [Razz] haha

Their Halloween episodes felt so old school didn't they?

I've looked for Halloween episodes in the past, Kev. I love the holiday themed episodes too. I recall Halloween episodes for Cheers, Facts Of Life, Knight Rider, Punky Brewster, Charles In Charge, Growing Pains, Kate and Allie, Silver Spoons, Mr. Belvedere, Diff'rent Strokes, The Cosby Show, Night Court, Square Pegs, Full House, and Free Spirit. In the 90s there were some Halloween eps for Perfect Strangers, 90210, Saved By The Bell, and Family Matters. Most of these can be found on youtube. Some great television!

Love that Alf episode - I had to review it just because. Still cracks me up!

That MacGyver episode, 'Halloween Knights', was awesome too! (How good is that damn theme song anyway?! [Cool] )

The Little House On The Prairie 'Halloween' episode from 1974 scared the crap outta me when I saw it as a kid in the 80s. I mean...Mrs. Oleson's head on a platter....that's some effed up stuff for a kid to see!

I love Buffy too. I watched it and Angel on their original run. I bought the complete Buffy set last year and have been watching it all over again. I got the first Angel recently as I'm about to start series 4 of Buffy and want to watch them side by side as I did back then on TV [Big Grin] So I've got that second Halloween episode coming up, yay [Big Grin]

Great ideas guys...

Chris...I love Greatest American Hero, and vaugly remember the beast in the black episode...doesn't Ralph come out with big bite marks that penetrated his suit?

Mike...I'm not a big Home Improvement fan, but do love their holiday episodes.

Valley...Roseanne had a classic Halloween episode each year....they actually released them all on one DVD a few years back...which I have.

Valley, Muffy, Helen, 80's....I like Buffy as well, but didn't watch it when it was in it's original run. My friend has the complete series on DVD and has lent me seasons in the past...I think I got to season 3 back when I could watch hours of shows at a time...then I had a baby!!! Might be time to re-visit Buffy....four years later.

Secret Admirer....that's a good list. I actually took the time at one point to go through episode descriptions of almost any 70's or 80's shows I could think of...came up with quite a list and managed to find lots of episodes...I'm off for the next 11 days, so I'll track down my list and post some of the good ones.

Keep em' comin...and thanks!

Kev, ALL Frasier episodes were good!

As for Halloween episodes, what about the Halloween episodes of Tales From the Darkside? I know there was the one about the grouchy old man and the Halloween candy.

pettyfan...I hadn't seen a whole episode of Frasier until I watched the Christmas episodes last year....a great sitcom...wish I had caught it on it's first run. I'll try to pick away at the DVD seasons...but hard to believe...wasn't there 10 seasons!

Awwwe shucks...thanks. Actually spent a good chunk of time reading episode guides for many series...I guess not too hard to track them down, seeing as Halloween is usually in October...and Christmas in December! I'll continue to search and will post any real progress....
