Which of these is the "Charles In Charge" cast that you remember?

 -

Above is actually the original cast of the 80's tv show "Charles In Charge".. are there a few folks missing that you might have thought should be in the original cast?

Original premise:

"Charles In Charge" was the saga of a 19-year-old college student helping out a busy working couple. In exchange for a place to stay and a little spending money, Charles tried valiantly to keep a rein on Stan and Jill Pembroke's three rambunctious children: cute, boy-crazy Lila (14); sarcastic Douglas (12); and happy-go-lucky Jason (10). Charles worked hard at the job and at his studies, but still managed to find time to hang out with his best friend Buddy and to pursue the girl of his dreams, beautiful, sexy coed Gwendolyn Pierce.

I vaguely remember this version of the show because the character of Gwendolyn Pierce was played by Jennifer Runyon from "The In Crowd"! She actually made a guest spot episode arc in a later season.

 -

Does this cast look more familiar? It appears only Charles and Buddy made it to the second season of "Charles In Charge"..

The new premise:

The Pembrokes had moved to Seattle and sold their house to the Powells, who became Charles' new employers. The man of the house was not Mr. Powell, a Navy commander stationed in the South Seas, but his cranky father Walter, himself a retired career Navy man. Also in the house were Walter's daughter-in-law Ellen, and his three grandchildren, Jamie (14), Sarah (13), and Adam (12). Jamie was much more outgoing, worldly, and boy-crazy than her younger sister and seemed to be forever preoccupied with getting Sarah out of her shell, while Sarah was moving at a much slower, but for her more comfortable, pace. Rambunctious Adam could have been a clone of Jason Pembroke.

The reason I would watch "Charles In Charge" on occasion was actually because of the movie "Zapped". I kind of saw "Charles In Charge" as having the carryover effect with regard to Scott Baio and Willie Aames characters from the movie. Baio has the hard working nice guy and Aames as the carefree get you into trouble buddy.

Anyone else watch it?

This show is probably in my top 5 80's tv shows. I watched it from the beginning as well....both casts were good. I always admired Charles at all the hot babes he got.

I agree with 80sRocked, both casts were good, and I also admired Charles for all the chicks he got (especially Jennifer Runyon). As a kid, I used to rush home from school just to catch the show. I didn't like to miss the beginning because I liked to sing along with the theme song. Buddy was the best, always getting them into mischief.

I loved Charles in Charge! I can still watch it now.

I always notice guys were a "Jamie fan" or a "Sarah fan" I always loved Nicole Eggert........she had the best outfits and was always dating boys. Sarah was all about school stuff. I always think it's funny that there were to different casts, yet I really thought both were great.

Your second pic up there Valley reminds me they owned a diner or something towards the end? right? I've had Charles in Charge in my Netflix I think I need to get on that [Smile]

kevdugp73, "Charles in Charge" started in 1984 and concluded in 1990, with a hiatus from 1985 to 1987.

Thanks Lovers with Cassie, and sorry 80'sRocked...I'm really not quite sure how this happened. I loved Happy Days and even watched Joanie Loves Chochie (SP?), in addition to loving Eight Is Enough...so along comes a new sitcom with Scott and Willie, and I didn't even check it out...I remember it being on TV, but again, really unsure how it escaped me. I'll certainly try to track down some episodes and check it out....but affraid it won't have that nostalgic feeling for me....I'm more surprised that it started as early as 84'...I would have guessed 87'-88'....

I loved it:

"The new boy in the neighbourhood... lives downstairs, and it's understood... he's there just to take good care of me... like he's one of the family."

Always a dodgy premise.
