"Meanwhile, John Cusack , perhaps the ultimate '80s-film reference point, is not only in the picture -- he's basically playing a version of himself from his "Say Anything"".

LA Times--John Cusack's 'Hot Tub Time Machine'

The movies called 'The Hot Tub Time Machine', Cusack's frequent collaborator and co-writer Steve Pink directs. Sounds great, I only hope the 'gross-out-comedy' label is just a hype tag to get more coverage.

I love the idea and will likely see this just for the 80's references...but...couldn't they have come up with a different name? Makes me skeptical automatically, to envision the writers, etc, sitting around a table...and agree on this name? Makes me worried about the writing in general....hopefully they'll prove me wrong...

i got to see an advanced screening of this a few weeks back. i LOVED IT! not sure if they will cut out a lot of scenes, or not because the movie is super potty-mouth humor. it was hilarious and the music they used was great..80s music of course.

kev, the title did strike me as odd at first, but they reference it in the movie, and it cracked me up. the title is what the movie is all about, so it does make sense.

**spoiler below**

william zabka's (from just one of the guys/karate kid)scenes in this were very funny. so funny to see him in a movie after all of this time. my hubby recognized him right away, and i didn't.

I actually LOVED this film. I went to see it with DuckieDW and we weren't disappointed with it from start to finish. Infact we went home and played Motley Crue and Poison records to our hearts content [Smile] and Cusack....I still would. [Wink]

Absolutly loved this film also.the title sucked me in straight away cos I figured it was gonna be some kind of back to the future type.its definately got some gross out humour in it but with such a talented cast,it totally works and doesnt miss a mark at all.nice to see Cussak back doing comedy after a stint in more serious roles.i recommend this to anyone who digs time travel, the 80s,motley crue and er...hot tubs :-)

Wow, I can't believe we're talking about the same movie here.

I'm a huge Cusack fan, I (obviously) love the 80's and I'm pretty open-minded, but...

What a piece of raunchy, tasteless crap this was!
I couldn't even sit through the entire thing.

Basically this movie is about a bunch of lowlifes throwing up, peeing,****ing, doing drugs and using the f-word so many times that it would make 'The Dude' blush. It was like watching a documentary on bonobos in an almost caricatural 80's setting.

The soundtrack was good, but predictable.

I couldn't stop thinking what the *bleep* John Cusack was doing in this movie.

I must be really getting old...
Such a let down. [Frown]

I watched it with a friend of mine.....you know what? I liked it.....yeah there is some gross out humour for sure........it made me laugh how my usually "gross me out" friend blushed in some parts haha

The premise was original and when they end up in the 80's they did a good job recreating it..."that dude is rocking a cassette player"..I mean they could have took it even further? even more cheesy.....but that sooooooooo looked just like Poison on the stage? didn't it?

it wasn't half bad [Smile]

Saw this movie the other day...it was OK bordering on good. Like you guys mentioned, the gross out elements were tacked on for the frat boy bozos or whoever that appeals to and those moments really felt out of place.

They got the 80s style right, though. Some good in-jokes (e.g Cusack getting stabbed in the eye with a fork is a nod to 'Grosse Pointe Blank' when Martin Blank says he "...killed the President of Paraguay with a fork").

I laughed out loud a few times as it was pretty well written, and the cast were all good but it didn't quite work as well as it could have.

I have a theory: When T & A became unacceptable for movies aimed at teens, they had to replace it with something, and that something was juvenile humour. It had always been there, but they upped the offensiveness. It's there to replace what 14 year-old boys really want to see - the actresses get nekkid.
